Iran Reaffirms Support for Lebanon’s Sovereignty Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Araghchi invites Lebanese foreign minister to Tehran for consultations on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing Israeli aggression

Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed Tehran’s firm support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, national unity, territorial integrity, and stability in a message sent Thursday to his Lebanese counterpart, Youssef Rajji. The statement comes at a time of escalating Israeli attacks and heightened regional tensions.

Araghchi extended an official invitation for Rajji to visit Tehran for consultations intended to enhance bilateral relations and address regional and international developments.

He emphasized the “deep-rooted and friendly” ties between Iran and Lebanon and expressed confidence that the Lebanese government and people will successfully overcome current challenges and threats.

Diplomatic Exchanges Following Beirut’s Call for Dialogue

On November 21, Araghchi invited Rajji to hold direct talks in Tehran, following remarks the Lebanese foreign minister made during a local television interview on November 19.

In that interview, Rajji stated that he saw “no taboo” in engaging with Iran to safeguard the interests of the Lebanese people, and he proposed holding negotiations in a neutral third country to address what he described as outstanding issues between the two sides.

Araghchi later responded publicly via a post on X, saying that his “dear friend” Youssef Rajji had reached out with the suggestion of opening dialogue.

Araghchi stressed that Iran does not interfere in Lebanon’s internal affairs and affirmed that Tehran remains open to any discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations without the need for a third country.

In his correspondence, Araghchi invited Rajji to Tehran for talks and added that he would be willing to visit Beirut should he receive a formal invitation from the Lebanese side. (PW)
