Zionist Prison Guards Inflict 'Savage Beatings' on Abducted Gaza Hospital Director
Rights groups condemn the ongoing torture and deliberate medical neglect of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya.
OCCUPIED PALESTINE — A Palestinian prisoners’ advocacy group has revealed that Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the steadfast director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, has suffered severe injuries, including fractured ribs, as a result of “savage beatings” while in Zionist captivity.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office announced in a statement on Wednesday that Dr. Abu Safiya, who has been illegally held by the Israeli regime since late 2024, was subjected to horrific physical assaults at the Rakefet detention facility inside Nitzan Prison. According to medical reports and CT scans, the relentless torture has left the dedicated physician with broken ribs and severe bruising.
“The Most Difficult Day”
The rights group described July 27 as the most brutal and difficult day for Dr. Abu Safiya since his abduction. In a display of sheer barbarism, Zionist prison guards have continued to physically assault the Gaza hospital director despite his critical health condition and the fact that he is already suffering from a broken rib.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office underscored the alarming deterioration of the doctor’s health. In addition to the trauma inflicted by the prison guards, Dr. Abu Safiya suffers from pre-existing heart disease and high blood pressure, making the physical abuse and deliberate medical neglect potentially fatal. The advocacy group stressed that the Zionist regime must be held fully accountable for his life and well-being in light of these continuous war crimes.
Kidnapped at Gunpoint
Dr. Abu Safiya was abducted by the Israeli military on December 27, 2024, during a brutal raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza. Zionist forces forcibly removed him at gunpoint, terrorising staff and patients before deliberately destroying significant portions of the medical facility to render it non-operational—a hallmark of the regime’s systematic targeting of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure.
Since his kidnapping, he has been held under the regime’s draconian “Unlawful Combatants Law,” a legal black hole used to indefinitely imprison Palestinians without charge or trial.
Isolation and Torture
The abuse is part of a broader, systematic campaign of torture against Palestinian detainees. On June 3, 2026, the Prisoners’ Media Office reported that Dr. Abu Safiya was moved to solitary confinement—a tactic frequently used by the occupation to psychologically break political prisoners and medical workers who have borne witness to the regime’s atrocities.
As the Axis of Resistance continues to highlight the suffering of the Palestinian people, the ordeal of Dr. Abu Safiya stands as a stark reminder of the Zionist entity’s utter disregard for international law, human rights, and the sanctity of medical professionals who have dedicated their lives to healing the wounded of Gaza.
