Occupied Jerusalem – The British government has capitulated to the dictates of the Zionist entity, downgrading its consulate in occupied East Jerusalem after the occupation expelled 20 British diplomats, including the consul general.
The expulsion serves as a direct retaliatory measure by Zionist Foreign Minister Gideon Saar against the UK’s recent, albeit limited, sanctions targeting goods produced in illegal apartheid settlements across the occupied West Bank.
The deadline for the Zionist regime to shutter the UK consulate expired on 8 October. Despite London’s hollow posturing, British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband conceded that the historic building would remain open only under a stripped-down designation: the “UK Mission, Jerusalem.”
“The British Consulate in Jerusalem ceases operations today,” Saar arrogantly declared, adding that a meagre seven diplomats permitted to remain would be confined to highly restricted activities.
For decades, the consulate managed the UK’s relations with the Palestinian people in occupied Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza. Its downgrade strips Palestinians of vital consular services, aid oversight, and independent reporting on the occupation’s crimes. Former UK attorney general Dominic Grieve warned that the closure violates international law, confirming that the Palestinian people will pay the heaviest price for London’s diplomatic cowardice.
The UK’s so-called sanctions, announced on 8 September, merely ban imports from illegal settlements and target specific individuals driving apartheid expansion following the Zionist entity’s approval of 1,234 settler homes in the E1 bloc—a deliberate attempt to bisect the West Bank and crush any prospect of a contiguous Palestinian state.
While Miliband hypocritically acknowledged that “ethnic cleansing” is being perpetrated by settler terrorists, over 130 legal experts previously told UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham that these half-measures “fall far short” of international obligations, demanding a comprehensive arms embargo on the Zionist entity.
Instead of standing firm against Zionist terror, London backed down from its earlier threats to expel 27 Israeli diplomats. Furthermore, the occupation has enacted a slew of punitive measures, including removing British representatives from Gaza aid coordination centres, halting UK training for the collaborationist Palestinian Authority (PA) forces, and barring elected British officials from entering occupied Palestine.
The incident lays bare the subservience of Western capitals to the Zionist regime, as London abandons its diplomatic presence in Occupied Jerusalem rather than confront Tel Aviv’s apartheid policies and ongoing war crimes against the Palestinian people.
