Yemen’s Grand Mufti: Scholars Who Remain Silent on Gaza Betray God and The Messenger
Sheikh Shams al-Din Sharaf al-Din Condemns Silence on Genocide in Gaza, Accuses Scholars of Betraying God and His Messenger
Yemen, PUREWILAYAH.COM - As the Israeli occupation continues its genocidal campaign against Gaza, Yemen’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Shams al-Din Sharaf al-Din, issued a powerful call from the capital Sana’a on Sunday.
Speaking at a mass rally commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Zayd ibn Ali (peace be upon him), the Mufti urged the Muslim world’s scholars to fulfill their divine responsibility.
"It is the responsibility of the scholars of the Ummah to call for jihad and to aid the distressed and the starving in the Gaza Strip," he declared.
"Those among the scholars of the Ummah who remain silent in the face of what is happening in Gaza are among those who have betrayed God and His Messenger."
Betrayal by Silence
The Grand Mufti strongly criticized what he described as a dangerous and shameful silence from many religious institutions and scholars, especially those of the Haramain and Al-Azhar.
"They will be questioned by God for their inaction," he warned. "The Qur’an commands them to speak the truth, to call for jihad, to spend in support of the oppressed, and to defend them."
He emphasized that what is occurring in Gaza today is an unprecedented genocide, one that cannot be met with silence. "The Ummah has watched Gaza suffer. People have turned away. Muslims are ashamed of their identity, while Gaza stands alone against tyranny on behalf of the entire Ummah."
A Zionist-American Project to Destroy the Ummah
Sheikh Sharaf al-Din also warned that the Zionist enemy is not seeking peace, but rather the continuation of a so-called peace process to buy time and implement its long-term colonial goals.
"We are not facing a normal enemy," he said. "This is a global Zionist-American project aimed at destroying the Islamic Ummah, dismantling its states, and subjugating its people."
Citing Israeli leaders such as Netanyahu, the Mufti highlighted that the enemy’s goals have been made clear in their own writings and statements. He reiterated that only through breaking the barrier of fear and fulfilling the duty of jihad can the Muslim Ummah confront this existential threat.
Divine Accountability and the Duty to Act
The Mufti stressed that the cries of Gaza must not go unanswered, warning that "what comes after Gaza’s cries will not be the same as before."
He called on all Muslims to assume their religious, national, and humanitarian responsibilities.
"Supporting Gaza is a religious, national, and human obligation," he said. "God will hold us accountable for our negligence. And anyone who refuses to stand with the righteous among Ahlul Bayt or remains idle while the people of Gaza die of hunger deserves nothing but the curse of God, the angels, and all mankind."
Honoring Yemen’s Ongoing Resistance
In closing, Sheikh Shams al-Din praised the steadfastness of the Yemeni people, who have continuously taken to the streets in support of Gaza since the beginning of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation.
He described the people of Gaza as “the icon of victory,” affirming that their resilience and unwavering stand is what will ultimately defeat the Zionist enemy. (PW)
