Yemen Launches Palestine-2 Hypersonic Missile at Al-Lydd (Ben Gurion) Airport
Flight operations suspended and millions sought shelter amid Yemen’s intensified retaliation over Gaza siege
Yemen, PUREWILAYAH.COM - The Yemeni Armed Forces announced on Wednesday that they launched a hypersonic ballistic missile, known as Palestine-2, against al-Lydd Airport—better known internationally as Ben Gurion Airport—in the occupied Yafa region.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for Yemen’s military, said the missile strike achieved its intended goals, disrupting civilian and flight operations and triggering mass panic as millions of settlers sought refuge in bomb shelters.
“The operation was a religious, moral, and humanitarian duty,” Saree declared, framing the attack as direct retaliation to Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza. He emphasised that Yemen would not halt such strikes until the siege on the Strip is lifted and Israeli aggression comes to an end.
The strike marks one of the most serious escalations in Yemen’s campaign of solidarity with Palestine. Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza, Yemeni forces have targeted military, economic, and infrastructure sites linked to Tel Aviv and its allies. Analysts say the use of the Palestine-2 hypersonic missile underscores Yemen’s growing military capabilities and its intent to reshape deterrence in the region.
Meanwhile, Israeli authorities have not released full details on the extent of damage at Ben Gurion Airport, though temporary suspension of flights and heightened security alerts were reported. The attack coincides with mounting international pressure over Israel’s conduct in Gaza, where UN agencies have warned of famine, mass displacement, and systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure.
Yemen’s leadership has repeatedly declared that its campaign will continue regardless of external threats or sanctions.
“As long as Gaza bleeds, we will strike,” Saree affirmed, vowing that future operations will escalate in intensity and scope.
The incident highlights how the Gaza war has widened into a regional confrontation, drawing in actors far beyond Palestine itself and signalling that Israel’s military campaign is increasingly contested across the region. (PW)
