Why Trump Is Pushing for an Iran MoU This Sunday
Trump reportedly wants the Iran MoU signed this Sunday to present it as a personal political achievement, while Tehran seems to refuse to grant him a symbolic victory.
America, PUREWILAYAH.COM – Reports from regional media indicate that US President Donald Trump is seeking to finalize and sign a memorandum of understanding with Iran on Sunday, a date that coincides with his 80th birthday.
According to a report published by Al Jazeera, political analysts believe Trump’s insistence on securing the agreement on this specific day is linked to his longstanding tendency to associate major political developments with his personal image and legacy.
The report suggested that Trump views the agreement as a significant political achievement and is attempting to present it as a personal success.
However, Tehran has shown no indication that it intends to accommodate such symbolic timing.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that no date has been finalized for the signing of any agreement and dismissed repeated American claims that a deal would be concluded “today or tomorrow.”
Baghaei stressed that such statements should be viewed as part of a psychological and media campaign rather than reliable information regarding the status of negotiations.
“The American side has repeatedly claimed that an agreement would be finalized imminently, but these statements appear aimed more at shaping perceptions and promoting a particular narrative than reflecting reality,” he said.
He also rejected speculation regarding unofficial negotiation channels, emphasizing that the framework of the talks remains transparent, with clearly identified negotiators, mediators, and diplomatic procedures.
Israeli Media: Iran Emerges as the Clear Winner
Meanwhile, Israeli media outlets have openly expressed concern over the reported understandings between Washington and Tehran.
The Hebrew-language newspaper Maariv described Iran as the “undisputed winner” of the confrontation with the United States, arguing that the emerging agreement represents a strategic victory for Tehran while exposing the failure of both Washington and Tel Aviv.
According to the report, Iranian officials demonstrated greater political skill than senior Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, War Minister Israel Katz, and other members of the ruling coalition.
The newspaper argued that the outcome has left Israel increasingly isolated from a diplomatic process that directly affects its strategic interests.
Israeli Officials Voice Frustration
Similar concerns were previously reported by Yedioth Ahronoth, which quoted a senior Israeli official expressing dissatisfaction with the direction of the US-Iran negotiations.
The official reportedly described the agreement as harmful to Israeli interests and acknowledged that Israel has been unable to influence the process.
“Everyone understands that this agreement is not good for us and damages Israel’s interests,” the official said.
He further complained that Washington had ignored Israeli objections, adding that Tel Aviv was shocked by the developments and frustrated by its inability to shape the outcome. (PW)
