US Pushes UN Security Council to Impose Foreign Control Over Gaza
US-backed resolution seeks foreign oversight, disarmament measures, and transitional governance as Palestinians warn of trusteeship and reaffirm support for Resistance
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM — The United States pushed through a controversial United Nations Security Council resolution on Monday aiming to place the Gaza Strip under direct foreign control through an International Stabilisation Force (ISF).
The move, approved with 13 votes and with Russia and China abstaining, is widely seen by Palestinians as an attempt to reshape Gaza’s governance in line with Washington’s strategic priorities and Israeli interests.
The US-backed resolution authorizes a temporary foreign force in Gaza for an initial two-year mandate, with the possibility of extension. The force would be granted extensive powers: securing borders, supervising reconstruction, protecting humanitarian corridors, and training a new Palestinian police body. Crucially, it is also empowered to take “all necessary measures,” including dismantling armed groups and seizing weapons the resolution labels as “unauthorized.”
The resolution additionally establishes a transitional administrative structure — the so-called Board of Peace — which would work alongside the ISF in governing Gaza. International financial institutions, including the World Bank, are tasked with funding and monitoring reconstruction through a dedicated trust fund, further expanding foreign control over Gaza’s internal affairs.
Palestinian groups denounced the measure, arguing that it represents foreign trusteeship disguised as ‘stabilisation’, undermining Palestinian sovereignty and sidelining Gaza’s existing governing institutions. Hamas and other Resistance factions insist that such external arrangements contradict the will of the Palestinian people and seek to weaken the Resistance on behalf of Israel.
Rising Popular Support for Hamas Undermines US Strategy
Even as Washington attempts to impose foreign oversight, its Gaza strategy is faltering on the ground. A report by the Wall Street Journal confirms that Hamas has experienced a significant surge in popular support across Gaza following the latest ceasefire, posing a major obstacle to President Donald Trump’s disarmament-focused agenda.
After Israeli forces withdrew from parts of the Strip, Hamas fighters quickly returned to their roles as internal security and police forces. Their rapid deployment restored order, curbed lawlessness, and revived public confidence — particularly after months in which Israeli assaults targeted civil servants and fostered chaos through the arming of local gangs.
For many in Gaza, the return of Resistance security forces marked the restoration of stability that neither Israel nor any foreign-sponsored force could provide.
“Only Hamas Could Stop the Chaos”
Residents across the Strip credit the Resistance with preventing total societal collapse. In Gaza City, 22-year-old businessman Hazem Sarour described the period before Hamas restored security:
“We witnessed a collapse — thieves, thugs, and lawlessness. No one could stop it except Hamas. That’s why people support them.”
Such sentiments reflect a broad public conviction that Gaza’s security must remain in the hands of its own people, not in the hands of foreign powers aligned with Washington’s regional agenda.
For many Palestinians, the UNSC plan pushed by the US is seen not as a stabilisation project, but as a direct attempt to impose foreign rule, undermine the Resistance, and reshape Gaza’s future without the consent of its people. (PW)
