TEHRAN — The US-led war on Iran has catastrophically backfired, exposing deep-seated treachery among Arab regimes, triggering a severe global economic crisis, and forcing Washington into a defensive posture of concealment, according to geopolitical analysts.
Speaking on Al Mayadeen’s The Great Standoff, Professor Mohammad Marandi and US strategic communications specialist David Bolger detailed how the American military campaign has failed to break the Axis of Resistance, instead fracturing regional alliances and alienating the Arab street.
Secret Collusion and the “Glass Palaces” of Arab Regimes
Recent intelligence reports have laid bare the clandestine military coordination between the United States, the Zionist regime, and several Arab states. Following an Axios report detailing a secret meeting in Germany between US CENTCOM, Zionist, and Arab military commanders, Marandi noted that the failure of these regimes to deny the reports serves as an admission of guilt.
Marandi highlighted that during the recent 12-day war, US bases across the region were used to provide free jet fuel to refuel both American and Zionist warplanes, representing a “very high level of coordination.”
However, he warned that these leaders are living in “glass palaces.” By aligning with the globally despised Zionist entity, Arab leaders are alienating their own populations. Marandi questioned the sanity of any leader choosing to be seen as an ally of the occupying regime, warning that such ties are deepening mistrust toward governments in Riyadh and complicating their diplomatic relations with nations like Turkey and Pakistan, where public support for Palestine remains steadfast.
Doubling Down on Failure: From Yemen to Europe
Instead of seeking a diplomatic off-ramp, Washington and its Gulf allies are escalating their failures. Marandi condemned the renewed Saudi aggression against Yemen—particularly the bombing of Sanaa International Airport—arguing that the US and Saudi leadership are “doubling down” and exacerbating their regional quagmire.
The analyst also sharply criticised Germany’s unwavering support for the Zionist regime. Rejecting Berlin’s attempts to justify its complicity through the lens of historical guilt, Marandi stated, “You don’t rid yourself of guilt by helping carry out another Holocaust,” pointing to the violent suppression of pro-Palestine protests across German cities.
The Economic Chokehold: Strait of Hormuz Disruptions
The fallout of the US aggression extends far beyond the battlefield, with the Strait of Hormuz serving as a chokepoint for global stability. Marandi emphasised that the crisis is not limited to crude oil exports; disruptions have halted the movement of millions of barrels of refined fuels, petrochemicals, and vital agricultural materials like sulfur and helium.
“The global economy is taking a very, very dangerous turn,” Marandi warned, noting that the resulting supply chain collapses are threatening agricultural production worldwide and pushing global markets toward a rapid downturn.
Pentagon Deception and Washington’s Political Retreat
From the American perspective, the war has become a massive domestic liability. David Bolger noted that the Trump administration is desperate to shift the narrative away from the conflict and toward the upcoming midterm elections, with the President recently declaring the war “over” without even referring to it as a war.
According to Bolger, the Pentagon is actively hiding the true costs of the aggression. Casualties, destroyed military bases, and financial expenditures are being obscured to prevent exposing American vulnerabilities to the Axis of Resistance.
Bolger estimated the actual financial cost of the war to be two or three times higher than officially admitted, contributing to a ballooning US national deficit that has surged by $40 trillion in recent months.
“The reason Donald Trump doesn’t want to talk about the war is the war and his going to battle, attacking with Israel, Iran on February 28th,” Bolger explained, adding that the resulting inflation and skyrocketing energy prices are directly punishing American households.
As the Pentagon limits transparency to avoid showing weakness, Bolger warned that the continued presence of over 50,000 US troops in the region only increases the risk of fatal Iranian retaliation. Ultimately, while the Axis of Resistance maintains its strategic steadfastness, the US and its regional proxies are left to manage the catastrophic blowback of their own imperial overreach.
