UN: 12,500 Patients in Gaza Need Medical Evacuation as Crisis Worsens
Approximately 12,500 patients in Gaza are still in urgent need of medical evacuation and Over 60,000 Palestinian children in Gaza are suffering from malnutrition
Palestine - UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq confirmed on Thursday that approximately 12,500 patients in Gaza are still in urgent need of medical evacuation. He urged that medical institutions be enabled to carry out these evacuations through all available crossings and corridors.
Speaking at a press conference in New York, Haq stated that the World Health Organization (WHO) has managed to support some medical evacuations from Gaza. However, Israeli authorities only permitted 18 patients and around 30 companions to leave on Wednesday to receive specialized treatment outside the Strip.
He reiterated the urgent need to reopen the crossings to allow essential supplies into the territory, warning that current supplies inside Gaza are rapidly depleting amid an escalating humanitarian crisis.
Haq also noted that over 60,000 Palestinian children in Gaza are suffering from malnutrition, while community-run kitchens are quickly running out of fuel and basic provisions.
Ongoing Genocide as Israeli Assault Escalates
Across Gaza, UN partners have also raised alarms about severe water shortages in shelters housing displaced persons.
The genocidal war resumed by Israel on the Gaza Strip 25 days ago, following a breach of the ceasefire agreement, has intensified under full American support and amid deafening global silence.
Israeli forces have continued committing acts of genocide and massacres against civilians, displaced persons, and Palestinian families. Since March 18, the death toll has reached 1,522 civilians, with 3,834 others wounded.
According to official Palestinian data from the Ministry of Health, since October 7, 2023, a total of 50,886 civilians have been killed, while 115,857 have sustained various degrees of injuries—many of them critical.
On March 2, Israel shut down all Gaza border crossings, halting the entry of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid. This has led to an unprecedented deterioration in humanitarian conditions, as confirmed by local government and human rights reports.
Rights organizations, along with local and UN bodies, have repeatedly warned about the devastating consequences of Israel's ongoing tightening of the blockade, which has pushed Palestinians into acute hunger. (PW)
