Ukraine Could Be ‘Crushed’ Without Peace Talks, Says Trump
The US President says continued war is futile, urges Kiev to reach deal with Russia or face major defeat
United States, PUREWILAYAH.COM - U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that Ukraine could soon face a devastating defeat if it refuses to enter negotiations with Russia.
In an interview with The Atlantic published on Monday, Trump said his policy is focused on saving Ukraine, not prolonging the war. “I think I’m saving that nation. I think that nation will be crushed very shortly,” he stated, citing Russia’s overwhelming military power.
“Let’s face it,” he added, “they have a big war machine.”
Vance Echoes Warning: “Ukrainians Aren’t Winning”
Separately, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance reinforced Trump’s position, asserting that the conflict was unwinnable for Ukraine.
“If this doesn’t stop, the Ukrainians aren’t winning the war,” Vance told conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. A former Marine, Vance criticized the idea that Moscow would collapse under pressure, calling such expectations “weird.”
U.S. Frustration Mounts Over Stalled Peace Talks
The comments come as Washington grows increasingly frustrated with the pace of progress in negotiations involving the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned last week that the U.S. might walk away from the peace process altogether if meaningful progress isn’t made.
Moscow, meanwhile, reiterated its willingness to negotiate—so long as the talks address the root causes of the war. The Kremlin has rejected short-term ceasefire proposals, accusing Kiev and the West of using them to rearm Ukrainian forces in the past.
Trump: Putin Easier to Deal With Than Zelensky
Last week, Trump stated that reaching a deal with Russia seemed more viable than negotiating with Ukraine’s leadership.
“I think Russia is ready… I think we have a deal with Russia. We have to get a deal with Zelensky,” Trump said, referring to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s rejection of a U.S. proposal that included recognizing Crimea as Russian territory, a reported key point in the draft peace framework.
Since taking office in early 2025, the Trump administration has pushed for an end to the conflict, not only for geopolitical reasons but also to secure U.S. economic interests.
Washington is reportedly seeking a mineral extraction agreement with Kiev as partial compensation for the billions of dollars spent on military and financial aid during Joe Biden’s presidency. (PW)
