The British government has announced a significant policy “reset” regarding its ties with the Zionist regime, unveiling plans to ban trade with illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank amid growing international condemnation of Tel Aviv’s apartheid practices and escalating settler violence.
UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband is scheduled to outline the comprehensive anti-settlement measures in Parliament on Tuesday. The boycott directly targets the illegal expansion of Zionist colonial outposts on stolen Palestinian land, which are universally recognised as a blatant violation of international law.
The apartheid regime has reacted to the impending trade ban with fury and desperation. Far-right Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich lashed out at London, baselessly accusing the British government of “antisemitism” to deflect from his regime’s ongoing atrocities. He threatened political and economic retaliation, arrogantly declaring that the “British Mandate” over Palestine is over.
Meanwhile, the so-called Israeli minister of national security, Itamar Ben Gvir, demanded that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sanction Britain by formally recognising Argentina’s sovereignty over the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands. In a post on X, Ben Gvir accused the UK of violently occupying the territory and plundering its natural resources, joining Smotrich in demanding the expulsion of the British envoy from Tel Aviv.
This diplomatic rupture marks a notable shift, reflecting the increasing isolation of the Zionist entity among its Western allies. As global outrage continues to mount over Israel’s relentless colonisation of the West Bank and its brutal oppression of the Palestinian people, London’s decision signals a growing fracture in unconditional Western support for the apartheid regime.
