UK and France Agree to Deploy Troops in Ukraine After Ceasefire
Moscow warns foreign contingents will become legitimate targets as US-led NATO deepens proxy war architecture
EUROPE | PUREWILAYAH.COM — The United Kingdom and France have formally agreed to deploy military forces inside Ukraine following the implementation of a ceasefire, a move Moscow has warned would constitute a dangerous escalation and a direct extension of the US-led NATO proxy war against Russia.
The plan was outlined in a joint declaration of intent signed on Tuesday in Paris by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The document sets the framework for establishing a so-called “Multinational Force for Ukraine”, to be deployed after a ceasefire takes effect.
Multinational Force: NATO Presence by Another Name
According to the British prime minister’s office, the proposed force is intended to “strengthen security guarantees and Ukraine’s capacity to restore peace and stability.”
However, the initiative is widely viewed as a de facto NATO deployment, aimed at entrenching Western military presence in Ukraine under the guise of post-ceasefire stabilization.
The declaration includes:
direct military support for Ukraine’s armed forces,
the creation of a ceasefire monitoring mechanism, and
a legal commitment by Western powers to back Kiev in the event of renewed hostilities.
London and Paris to Establish Military Centers in Ukraine
President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that a central pillar of the plan is a ceasefire monitoring mechanism under US leadership, underscoring Europe’s subordination to Washington’s strategic command.
The arrangement reinforces criticism that the United States continues to run the conflict from behind the scenes, while European states absorb the political, economic, and military risks of escalation.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer further confirmed that the UK and France have agreed to establish “military centers” inside Ukraine once a truce is in place.
This signals a long-term Western military footprint in the country, effectively transforming Ukraine into a forward operating zone for NATO forces and increasing the risk of direct confrontation with Russia.
Russia: Foreign Troops Will Be Legitimate Targets
Moscow responded with an unequivocal warning. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had already stated in December that any foreign military contingents deployed to Ukraine “will become legitimate targets for our Armed Forces.”
Lavrov denounced what he described as the “European war party,” accusing it of:
investing its political capital in the pursuit of Russia’s “strategic defeat,”
sacrificing Ukraine as a disposable proxy, and
showing no concern for either Ukrainian lives or their own populations.
A Western Proxy War Since 2022
Since 24 February 2022, Russia has carried out a special military operation in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that its objectives include:
protecting populations from what Moscow describes as genocide by the Kiev regime, and
neutralizing national security threats posed by the eastward expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Russia maintains that the conflict was engineered and prolonged by US and NATO intervention, not by Ukrainian security needs.
Europe Entrapped in Washington’s War Agenda
The UK-France troop deployment plan confirms that key European powers are increasingly entangled in Washington’s war architecture, prioritizing US geopolitical objectives over regional stability.
Rather than pursuing a genuinely sovereign peace process, Western states are opting for post-ceasefire militarization, paving the way for broader and more dangerous escalation in Eastern Europe. (PW)
