Trump Claims Progress in Iran Talks Despite No Response from Tehran
Trump says negotiations are moving forward, but Iranian sources reaffirmed no response has been sent to Washington and discussions remain stalled over Lebanon.
United States, PUREWILAYAH.COM — US President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday that negotiations with Iran were advancing and suggested that a proposed agreement was moving through the approval process in Tehran. But Iranian media reports, however, presented a sharply different picture, stating that no response has been sent to Washington and that exchanges through intermediaries remain suspended.
Speaking about the negotiations, Trump said “the situation with Iran is evolving rapidly and will turn out very well,” adding that Iranian officials were reviewing and approving the proposed agreement.
His remarks suggested that progress was being made toward a potential understanding between Tehran and Washington despite months of tensions and disagreements over key regional issues.
However, no Iranian official publicly confirmed Trump’s characterization of the negotiations.
Tehran Says No Response Has Been Sent
Iranian media quickly challenged Trump’s claims.
According to Tasnim News Agency, Iran has not provided any response to the United States in recent days regarding the draft agreement currently under discussion.
The report stated that no communication indicating approval or progress has been sent to Washington, directly contradicting Trump’s assertion that the proposal was advancing through an approval process.
Tasnim further reported that exchanges of proposals through intermediaries have effectively been suspended and that claims of progress do not reflect the current state of discussions.
The agency argued that Washington’s public assessment differs significantly from developments taking place behind the scenes.
Lebanon Remains a Central Issue
According to Iranian reports, the continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon have become a major obstacle to any diplomatic progress.
Tasnim reported that negotiations would remain stalled until Tehran’s conditions regarding Lebanon are addressed, reflecting Iran’s position that Lebanon cannot be separated from broader regional understandings.
An informed source told Fars News Agency that exchanges of messages between Tehran and Washington have been suspended for several days and that discussions surrounding a proposed memorandum of understanding are currently on hold.
The source said Iran’s latest message to Washington focused on developments in Lebanon and conveyed Tehran’s firm position regarding the ongoing situation.
Iran and the Resistance have repeatedly emphasized that they will not remain silent in the face of continued Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
Iranian Officials Reaffirm Their Position
The importance of Lebanon in the negotiations was also highlighted by Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament.
Rezaei reiterated that Lebanon must be included in any final agreement and constitutes an inseparable component of any ceasefire arrangement.
His remarks reinforced Tehran’s position that regional realities cannot be ignored in discussions with Washington.
Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that any understanding aimed at reducing tensions must address developments across the region rather than focus solely on bilateral issues.
Tehran Reviews Draft With Caution
Meanwhile, an informed source told Mehr News Agency that the final draft of a potential memorandum of understanding remains under review in Tehran and that no official response has yet been issued.
The source said Iran is approaching the proposal cautiously due to Washington’s long history of failing to honor its commitments.
“The United States’ bad history of not keeping its promises has prompted Iran to deal with the issue very cautiously,” the source said, adding that Tehran seeks concrete and verifiable gains rather than political assurances.
The source further noted that Washington remains concerned about the outcome of the war, while Iran’s focus is on ensuring that any future agreement produces tangible results.
“The United States is worried about the war, and we are concerned about the agreement, because the US spent a lot on the war and did not achieve success,” the source said.
Conflicting Narratives Leave Talks Uncertain
The latest developments have highlighted a widening gap between Washington’s public messaging and reports emerging from Iranian media and officials.
While Trump continues to portray negotiations as moving forward, sources in Tehran maintain that no response has been sent, proposal exchanges remain suspended, and key regional issues—particularly Lebanon—remain unresolved. (PW)
