Trump Attacks Media Again, Brands Reports of Iran’s Victory as “Treason”
President Donald Trump lashed out at news organizations reporting Iran’s military gains, while Senator Chris Murphy said none of Washington’s war objectives against Tehran have been achieved.
United States, PUREWILAYAH.COM — U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a new attack on media outlets that published realistic assessments of the war with Iran, denouncing reports of Iranian battlefield success as an act of “treason” against the United States.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused journalists and commentators who challenged his claims of victory of being “fools,” “ungrateful,” and “American cowards” who, in his words, had turned against their own country.
“When the Fake News says that the Iranian enemy is doing well militarily against us, that is essentially treason,” Trump wrote.
The remarks reflect Trump’s growing frustration with independent reporting that has increasingly portrayed the war as a strategic failure for Washington and a geopolitical success for Tehran.
Trump Pressures the Media and the Justice Department
Trump has repeatedly attacked news organizations that contradict his preferred narrative. Across both of his presidential terms, he has filed dozens of lawsuits against media outlets and portrayed the press as a political adversary.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Trump has pushed the United States Department of Justice to investigate journalists and media organizations that published reports on the Iran war that diverged from his claims.
According to the report, several journalists received subpoenas demanding records and reporting materials. Officials familiar with the matter said Trump personally pressured senior Justice Department officials to pursue aggressive action against members of the press.
Senator Murphy: None of Trump’s War Objectives Were Achieved
As Trump sought to defend his narrative of victory, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy said the war had produced the opposite of what Washington intended.
“Iran still has most of its missiles and drones, and Iran's nuclear program is still in place,” Murphy said.
He noted that Iran still retains much of its missile and drone arsenal, while the country’s nuclear program remains intact. He also argued that the Islamic Republic has emerged from the conflict with even greater global influence than before.
Murphy described the outcome as “a complete disaster.”
A Victory Narrative Under Growing Strain
Trump’s attacks on the media underscore the White House’s increasing difficulty in sustaining claims of victory as criticism mounts from lawmakers, journalists, and the American public.
Rather than accepting independent assessments of the conflict, Trump has chosen to denounce reporters as traitors for documenting that Iran preserved its military capabilities, maintained its strategic programs, and emerged from the war in a stronger position than before. (PW)
