Thousands Rally in London to Mark Nakba Day and Protest UK Support for Israel
Demonstrators Demand End to British Arms Sales and Stronger Action for Gaza

London, PUREWILAYAH.COM - On May 17, 2025, thousands of demonstrators filled the streets of London to commemorate the 77th anniversary of Nakba Day and protest against Israel’s ongoing occupation and military actions in Gaza and the West Bank. The event, organised by the Palestinian Forum in Britain and supported by groups such as the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, Friends of Al-Aqsa, and the British Muslim Association, drew widespread participation from civil society organizations.
Nakba Day, meaning “catastrophe” in Arabic, marks the forced displacement of around 750,000 Palestinians following the creation of Israel on May 15, 1948. Protesters accused the British government of being “a partner in genocide in Gaza” due to its continued support for Israel and ongoing arms sales.
The rally began in Victoria Square, where demonstrators chanted slogans and waved Palestinian flags before marching towards Whitehall Street, the location of the Prime Minister’s Office and key government ministries. Participants carried placards with messages such as “Stop the war in Gaza,” “No to the occupation,” “No to the siege,” and “Stop the genocide,” calling for an immediate end to Israeli attacks and a halt to British arms exports to Israel.
This protest comes amid mounting international calls for a ceasefire in Gaza and increased humanitarian aid for Palestinians. Organisers pledged to maintain pressure on the British government to take a stronger stance against Israel’s actions and to prevent the recurrence of “another Nakba.” The demonstration is part of a wave of global solidarity actions as humanitarian agencies warn of worsening conditions in Gaza.
