Thousands Gather in Tehran to Mark First Anniversary of President Raisi’s Death
Senior Officials, Citizens, and Families of Martyrs Unite in Somber Ceremony Honouring the “Martyrs of Service”
Tehran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Tehran saw a massive public gathering on Thursday afternoon as thousands of Iranians came together to commemorate the first anniversary of President Ebrahim Raisi’s death, along with his companions, collectively remembered as the “Martyrs of Service.” The event, held in a solemn yet determined atmosphere, drew a wide cross-section of society, including senior officials, military leaders, students, clerics, families of martyrs, and workers.
Among the prominent attendees were Commander Esmaeil Qaani, former first vice president Mohammad Mokhber, and Tehran Police Chief General Abbasali Mohammadian. The crowd was a vivid display of national unity, with women in mourning attire, men in uniforms, children wearing headbands, and disabled war veterans in wheelchairs all present to pay their respects. Iranian flags and portraits of President Raisi were visible throughout the gathering, accompanied by chants of devotion.
A short film was screened during the ceremony, highlighting President Raisi’s legacy of public service. In his address, Commander Hossein Salami described Raisi as “a president shaped by the ideals of the Islamic Revolution,” underscoring the late leader’s significance to the nation.
President Raisi, along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and several other officials, died on May 19 of the previous year in a helicopter crash in East Azarbaijan province. The tragic accident occurred as they were returning from a ceremony to inaugurate a dam on the Aras River, attended by Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
The anniversary event in Tehran served as a powerful reminder of the late president’s impact and the enduring sense of solidarity among the Iranian people.(PW)
