In February 2020, the Martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Sayyid Ali Khamenei (may God sanctify his pure soul), drew a profound and prophetic parallel: he likened the United States to the Titanic. Despite the deceptive facade of grandeur, luxury, and supposed invincibility that surrounded the ill-fated ship, a single iceberg shattered the illusion in 1912. The Leader foretold that the arrogant US empire, with all its so-called ‘glory,’ is not immune to divine and historical downfall and is destined to ‘sink.’ Today, as American military adventurism is tested in the sacred waters of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, this prediction resonates with undeniable clarity.
The Strategic Chokepoint
The Strait of Hormuz is the beating heart of global energy transit, with a fifth of the world’s oil passing through its narrow waters. For decades, the Islamic Republic maintained the strait’s security, never acting as the initiator of aggression. However, as the Martyred Leader repeatedly emphasised, if imperialist powers provoke tensions and deploy their armadas to project hegemony over the region, the Resistance will inevitably confront them.
The Failure of US War Games
Washington has long known its vulnerabilities in these waters. In 2002, the US military conducted the “Millennium Challenge” war game, pitting a technologically superior “Blue” force against a smaller, asymmetric “Red” adversary—widely understood to simulate Iran. The Red Team utilised asymmetric naval doctrine, deploying fast attack boats and coordinated missile strikes in confined waters. The result was devastating: the Red Team sank over a dozen US warships, including an aircraft carrier. Panicked, the US command unilaterally paused the exercise, reset the scenario, and restricted Red’s tactics to ensure a US victory. The simulation laid bare a fatal flaw in American conventional naval warfare: technological superiority offers no salvation against an asymmetric adversary in confined, strategic waters.
Decades of Strategic Foresight
The closure of the Strait of Hormuz was never an empty threat. In 2011, the Martyred Leader directed the IRGC to draft a comprehensive 15-page operational doctrine to seal the strait within a month, covering military operations from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean. Long before that, while serving as President in 1985, he warned that the strait would be closed if Iran’s oil exports were cut off. His 2020 prophecy was born from decades of deep strategic deliberation and divine insight.
The Sinking of the American Illusion (2026)
The US naval intimidation campaign culminated in its deployment of an armada ahead of its aggression on February 28, 2026. In response, the Martyred Leader issued a chilling warning:
“A warship is indeed dangerous; however, more dangerous than that warship is the weapon that can send it to the bottom of the sea.”
Despite projecting massive naval power, the US failed to achieve its objectives and found its naval prowess dismantled. The USS Abraham Lincoln languished in West Asia for seven months before being forced to withdraw, plagued by a severe mental health crisis among its demoralised sailors—some of whom attempted to jump overboard. Its replacement, the USS George Washington, was pulled from the Indo-Pacific, compromising Washington’s strategy to contain China.
Furthermore, the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain sustained such damage that resupplying deployed ships became a logistical nightmare. Personnel struggled to obtain basic food supplies, forcing the Navy to rely on Diego Garcia, thousands of miles away. US attempts to reroute vessels through Omani waters also failed catastrophically, with ships running aground or striking sea mines after ignoring clear warnings from the Islamic Republic.
Asymmetric Triumph and Divine Promise
The formidable presence of US warships demonstrates imperial reach, but it cannot secure victory against the Islamic Republic. The Martyred Leader’s words were not mere rhetoric; they are the bedrock of Iran’s doctrine of asymmetric warfare. The Resistance’s geographical mastery, ballistic missile capabilities, and maritime assets ensure that American warships are simply floating targets.
The decline of the American empire will not necessarily manifest as a sudden disappearance of its military hardware, but as a steady erosion of its political and economic hegemony. The Resistance’s steadfastness has exacted an unbearable cost on US military operations.
Ultimately, when the Martyred Leader invoked the words of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), declaring “God is with me,” it was a profound divine anticipation. Just as Pharaoh’s arrogant army was overwhelmed and drowned by the sea, the United States—the Titanic of our time—will find its imperial arrogance swallowed by the very waters it sought to dominate.
