In his recent Friday sermons in Najaf, prominent cleric Hojat al-Islam Sayyed Sadr al-Din al-Qubanchi addressed critical domestic and international issues, shedding light on the ongoing “civilisational war” being waged against Islam and outlining the essential requirements for true Iraqi sovereignty.
Four Pillars for True Arms Monopoly and Sovereignty
Addressing the “pledge of understanding” reached by the Coordination Framework and other political currents regarding the monopoly of arms in Iraq, al-Qubanchi emphasised that true national sovereignty cannot be compromised. He outlined four fundamental pillars necessary for the successful implementation of an arms monopoly:
Full Iraqi Sovereignty: Complete control over Iraqi land and airspace is an absolute prerequisite; without it, an arms monopoly is impossible.
Elimination of Threats: Arms consolidation cannot be achieved as long as internal and external security threats persist against the nation.
Inclusive Application of the Law: The monopoly of force must apply to all non-governmental entities. This specifically includes the illegal presence of occupying Turkish forces in northern Iraq and the Peshmerga. Without comprehensive enforcement, the project will fail.
Strategic Patience: The process cannot be rushed. Achieving full sovereignty, eliminating foreign and illegal presences, and neutralising threats will require years of steady implementation.
Al-Qubanchi praised this framework as the most viable solution for managing Iraq’s sensitive internal security files while fiercely defending the nation’s independence from foreign hegemony.
The “Civilisational War” Against Islam
Shifting to the global stage, the Najaf prayer leader dissected the true nature of the conflicts in the region. Referencing recent moves by US leadership to ban the implementation of Islamic Sharia, he clarified that the current war is not merely a political or economic struggle, but a full-blown civilisational war against Islam.
He noted that this aggressive Western posturing is a direct reaction to the undeniable global expansion and progress of Islam. The anxiety displayed by world leaders over Islamic governance models proves the enduring strength of the faith and the ultimate failure of imperialist narratives.
Defending the Islamic Family from Western Subversion
Beyond the battlefield, al-Qubanchi highlighted a critical front in this civilisational war: the cultural and ideological subversion of the family unit. He condemned Western intellectual trends that actively seek the collapse of the traditional family through hyper-individualism, feminist agendas, and the push for “gender equality.” These movements, he warned, aim to alter the foundational structure of the family and separate marriage from reproduction.
In stark contrast, Islam elevates the family as a core pillar of human development. Citing prophetic traditions, the cleric emphasised that providing for one’s family is ranked alongside the highest acts of worship, such as fasting and night prayers.
Furthermore, on the domestic front, the cleric welcomed the Iraqi Prime Minister’s “one million land plots” initiative to empower the youth and strengthen family formation. He also stressed the critical need to develop an independent cultural structure—encompassing literature, press, and media—to combat intellectual subversion and fortify Islamic identity against imperialist influence.
