The Full Text of the Statement:
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the military attack carried out by the terrorist US military in the early hours of Saturday, June 6, 2026, against radar and coastal surveillance facilities in the Sirik region and on Qeshm Island, whose mission is to safeguard the country’s border security and the safety of navigation in international waterways. The attack constitutes a clear violation of the April 8 ceasefire and an act of military aggression against the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This action, which comes as part of the continued hostile and provocative conduct of the US administration against the Islamic Republic of Iran, demonstrates Washington’s complete disregard for the fundamental principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations. The powerful Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, exercising their inherent right of legitimate self-defense, responded to this act of aggression with vigilance, determination, and full capability, delivering a proportional and effective response and preventing the malicious objectives of those behind the attack from being achieved.
The repeated violations of the ceasefire by the United States once again prove that Washington not only lacks any intention of reducing tensions and returning to a path of stability, but is also placing regional security at serious risk through its reckless actions. The US government bears full responsibility for all consequences arising from these unlawful actions, as well as for any potential future escalation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while reaffirming the country’s inherent and legitimate right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, stresses that the Islamic Republic of Iran will utilize all its capabilities and capacities to defend its sovereignty, security, and national interests.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly calls on the countries of the region to uphold the principle of good neighborliness and adhere to the fundamental principle of international law that prohibits allowing aggressor states to use their territory or facilities for planning and carrying out hostile actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Ministry also calls on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the UN Security Council, and other responsible international bodies to take immediate and effective action in response to the continued ceasefire violations and unlawful actions of the United States, and to prevent the growing normalization of violations of the UN Charter and actions that threaten regional and international peace and security.
