Syria Announces Ceasefire with SDF Following Signing of Agreement
Syrian Defense Ministry declares immediate and comprehensive ceasefire across all fronts, outlines terms of redeployment and institutional reintegration
Syria | PUREWILAYAH.COM - The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire has been implemented across all fronts and contact lines between Syrian government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), following an agreement signed by President Ahmad al-Sharaa with the SDF.
The Ministry stated that the decision aims to open safe corridors to allow civilians to return to their areas and to enable state institutions to resume their duties in serving citizens. It emphasized the need for Syrian forces to act with responsibility and discipline in protecting civilians, safeguarding property, and maintaining security and stability.

SDF Redeployment and Transfer of Authority
Under the terms of the agreement, all SDF military formations will withdraw to east of the Euphrates as a preliminary step toward redeployment.
The agreement also stipulates the administrative and military handover of Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa provinces to the Syrian government. This includes the transfer of all civil institutions and facilities, while retaining current employees within the relevant ministries. The government has committed to not taking action against SDF employees, fighters, or the civil administration in the two provinces.
The agreement further provides for the integration of civilian institutions in Hasakah province into Syrian state institutions. The government will assume control over all border crossings and oil and gas fields, securing them through regular forces to ensure that national resources are returned to the state.
Integration of SDF Fighters into State Structures
All SDF military and security personnel will be integrated individually into the structures of the Ministries of Defense and Interior following security screening. They will be granted military ranks and financial and logistical entitlements, with assurances to protect the specific status of Kurdish-majority areas.
Political Engagement and US Envoy Visit
Earlier, President al-Sharaa received the US envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, affirming that all outstanding issues with the SDF would be resolved, and that state institutions would enter the three eastern and northeastern provinces.
A meeting between President al-Sharaa and SDF commander Mazloum Abdi had been scheduled but was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), President al-Sharaa stressed Syria’s unity and sovereignty over its entire territory, the importance of dialogue at the current stage, and the rebuilding of Syria with the participation of all Syrians. He also underscored the continuation of coordinated efforts in combating terrorism.
The agreement follows several days of clashes between the Syrian Army and the SDF, during which government forces took control of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in Aleppo, Maskanah and Deir Hafer in eastern Aleppo countryside, and expanded operations into areas of Deir ez-Zor and the Raqqa countryside, securing several strategic locations.
