Athens/Tehran — In a scathing rebuke of American imperial arrogance, top Iranian officials have dismantled the hypocritical narratives peddled by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, exposing Washington’s desperate attempts to spin its cascading regional humiliations.
During a recent speech in Athens, Rubio attempted to invoke ancient history to disparage the Islamic Republic’s unbreakable culture of martyrdom and resistance. Praising the ancient Greeks for fighting “to the last man” against the Achaemenid Empire in 480 BC, the US top diplomat brazenly denigrated Iran’s steadfastness, portraying the honouring of martyrs as an aberration rather than a virtue.
Ali Akbar Velayati, senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei, sharply condemned Rubio’s remarks as a glaring display of Western cognitive dissonance.
“Praising resistance when it serves ‘one’s own’ and denigrating it when it comes from ‘the other’ is not civilisation; it is sophistry in the service of domination,” Velayati stated in a direct response to the US Secretary of State.
Clarifying the true nature of the American grievance, Velayati noted that Washington’s hostility is rooted in its inability to subjugate the East.
“Mr. Rubio, your problem is not with the Islamic Revolution; It is with a strong, independent Iranian civilisation.”
Velayati further reminded the American diplomat of Washington’s horrific track record of global terrorism and mass murder, stating unequivocally:
“Those who brought about the catastrophes of Hiroshima, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan have no right to lecture others on morality!”
Echoing this resolute sentiment, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), delivered a devastating historical reality check to the floundering US administration.
Pointing to Washington’s recent strategic defeats and humiliations at the hands of the Axis of Resistance, Rezaei noted that American officials travel to Athens to construct a fake “civilisational war” narrative to soothe their bruised egos.
“When they go to Athens after defeat and humiliation before Iran to shape a narrative of a civilisational war, it would be better for them to read another important part of history: where the Roman emperor knelt before Shapur I of the Sasanian Empire,” Rezaei wrote.
The exchange highlights the widening ideological and strategic chasm between the declining American empire and the resilient, spiritually driven Axis of Resistance. As Washington struggles to process its strategic failures in West Asia, Iranian leadership remains resolute, grounding its defiance in a rich history of standing against global arrogance (Istikbar).
