Sheikh Zakzaky Denounces Israeli Strategy as ‘Genocidal’ and Warns Efforts to Disarm Hezbollah Will Falter
Nigerian Shi’a leader says Gaza expulsions mask resource plunder and affirms Hezbollah’s resilience.
Nigeria, PUREWILAYAH.COM - In a pointed and uncompromising interview with Iran Press, Sheikh Ibrahim Yaqoub Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, strongly criticised Israeli plans to forcibly relocate Palestinians to southern Gaza—claiming the initiative is merely the latest phase of a long-standing campaign combining starvation, bombardment, and genocide. He warned that the underlying motive, far from securing peace, is to gain control over Gaza’s natural resources, particularly its offshore gas reserves.
Labelling the Israeli strategy as "a continuation of a two‑year campaign of genocide," Sheikh Zakzaky asserted that the displacement of Gazans is politically motivated—aimed at clearing the land under the pretext of humanitarian relocation. He firmly stated: “The Zionist entity plans to wipe out Gaza's people—they don't care if it means killing everyone… They now want forced evictions to steal Gaza's resources… But this will fail. Palestinians won't leave their land, from the river to the sea.”
Turning from Gaza to Lebanon, Sheikh Zakzaky condemned mounting international and regional pressure on Hezbollah to disarm. He dismissed the notion that removing weapons would weaken the group, arguing instead that its true strength lies in unwavering faith and broad grassroots support.
“Zionists think disarming Hezbollah will weaken them, but their real power is faith in God. Lebanon won't become another West Bank—the people stand with Hezbollah as their true defenders,” he added.
Echoing Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem, he warned that disarmament would effectively “hand Lebanon’s security over to Israel”.
Sheikh Zakzaky’s remarks reflect a broader ethos of resistance defined by spiritual conviction and collective identity, rejecting strategies he views as hollow or exploitative. (PW)
