Saudi Petrochemical Giant Attacked
Explosions rock Jubail industrial zone following missile strike on key energy infrastructure
Saudi Arabia, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Explosions and widespread impacts were reported in Saudi Arabia’s strategic Jubail industrial zone early Tuesday, in what authorities confirmed as a missile attack targeting energy infrastructure.
According to available reports, multiple strikes hit the Jubail area, one of the most critical petrochemical hubs in the world. The industrial zone, with an annual production capacity of approximately 60 million tons, accounts for around 6 to 8 percent of global petrochemical output.
Saudi Arabia’s SABIC, the Middle East’s petrochemical giant with American shareholders, is one of the major investors in this industrial hub.
Additionally, the Sadara complex—backed by the American company Dow Chemical—and the Amiral project, jointly owned by Aramco and TotalEnergies, are among the major petrochemical projects located in Jubail.
Saudi Arabia Confirmed A Missile Attack on Energy Facilities.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense acknowledged the missile strike but claimed that the remnants of ballistic missiles fell near energy facilities, adding that damage assessments are still underway.
A spokesperson for the Ministry also claimed that seven ballistic missiles targeting the Eastern Province were intercepted. (PW)
