Sana'a Marks Two Years Since al-Deif's Killing With Pledge to Stand by Gaza
On the anniversary of the Qassam Brigades commander's assassination, Ansarullah official Hazam al-Asad says Yemen's operations will continue until the war ends and the siege is lifted
A senior official of Yemen’s Ansarullah movement has restated the group’s backing for the Palestinian people and their resistance, vowing that the campaign will go on until the Israeli assault on Gaza halts, the siege is lifted, and Palestinians secure their legitimate rights.
Hazam al-Asad, a member of Ansarullah’s political bureau, made the remarks to the Shehab news agency on the second anniversary of the killing of Mohammed al-Deif, commander-in-chief of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Deif was assassinated by Israeli forces on July 13, 2024, in an airstrike on Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
‘A pledge to the martyrs’
Asad described Deif as an “exceptional leader” who had devoted his life to jihad and resistance, crediting him with a central role in building the Palestinian resistance and establishing deterrence against the Israeli occupation. His legacy, Asad said, would continue to inspire generations to come.
“We pledge to the spirit of Martyr Mohammed al-Deif and all the martyred leaders in Palestine, Lebanon, and all resistance fronts that we will remain steadfast in our principled position of supporting the Palestinian people and their resistance,” he said, adding that Yemen’s armed forces would press on with their operations until the war on Gaza ends and the blockade is broken.
Addressing the current leadership of the Qassam Brigades, Hamas, and the other Palestinian factions, Asad told them that the free nation stood at their side. He praised what he called the legendary steadfastness of the Palestinian resistance, and said the will that produced the al-Aqsa Storm operation remained capable of carrying the path of liberation forward until the occupation is defeated and all rights restored.
Yemen’s role in the campaign
The statement comes against the backdrop of Yemen’s direct military involvement in support of the Palestinian cause. Since the start of the al-Aqsa Flood battle on October 7, 2023, Yemeni forces have fired ballistic missiles and drones at Israeli targets in the occupied territories and enforced a naval blockade on Israeli-linked shipping across the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean.
Ansarullah has been a central component of the Axis of Resistance, standing alongside Iran, Hezbollah, and other regional forces in the confrontation with Israeli and American power.
