Russia’s Medvedev Warns of Global Chaos as U.S. Actions Shatter International Order
Russia’s senior official condemns the abduction of Venezuela’s president, warns of U.S. contempt for international law, and describes a global order sliding into open chaos.
Russia, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, warned that international relations are sliding into chaos, in a statement published on his official Telegram channel, where he assessed recent global developments at the start of the year.
Medvedev said the new year has begun with a profound shock to international relations, pointing to the abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces as a defining act of global lawlessness.
Describing the incident as an act of outright thuggery, Medvedev said it would be remembered as a catastrophe for international diplomacy.
“This was an utterly vile act of thuggery—or, more elegantly put, a full-blown catastrophe for international relations,” Medvedev stated.
According to Medvedev, Washington now faces only two possible outcomes: a quiet release of Maduro under a face-saving pretext, or the transformation of the Venezuelan leader into a historic symbol of resistance.
“Either the United States quietly releases the kidnapped Venezuelan president… or he turns into the Latin American version of Nelson Mandela,” he said, adding that the second scenario appears more likely.
Oil, Imperial Calculations, and Strategic Limits
Medvedev emphasized that oil lies at the heart of Washington’s aggression, but warned that resource ambitions do not guarantee control.
He questioned whether the United States is truly prepared to escalate militarily if Venezuela refuses long-term submission.
“What if the current Venezuelan authorities don’t feel like sharing it with the gringos over the long term? What then?” Medvedev asked.
He noted that a full ground operation would require Congressional approval, carry heavy casualties, and face domestic resistance—especially as recent moves by the U.S. Senate have begun to restrain Trump’s militaristic impulses.
“Does the current administration even need such a war? Highly doubtful.”
Sanctions on Russia: Nothing New
Turning to U.S. threats of new sanctions against Russia, Medvedev dismissed them as predictable and unavoidable.
“America’s sanctions policy will continue regardless of circumstances,” he said.
He warned that Washington seeks to force Russia into unacceptable compromises on security and territory, after which sanctions would be imposed regardless.
“Unpleasant. But nothing new. We will weather it this time as well,” Medvedev stated.
Tanker Seizure and Maritime Lawlessness
Medvedev also addressed the seizure of a tanker linked to the so-called “shadow fleet,” describing it as a criminal act by the United States under the guise of sanctions enforcement.
While acknowledging procedural flaws in the vessel’s attempt to seek protection under a temporary Russian flag, Medvedev stressed that Washington itself has never ratified the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, making its actions fundamentally illegitimate.
“The actions of the increasingly brazen Americans amount to the criminal seizure of a civilian vessel,” he said.
He argued that any response must lie outside frameworks the U.S. openly disregards, especially given Trump’s own statements rejecting the relevance of international law.
A Warning of Global Disorder and Escalation
Medvedev concluded with a stark assessment of the global situation, warning that international relations have entered a phase of open instability and confrontation.
“Since the beginning of the year, international relations have descended into outright Bedlam,” he said.
Rejecting diplomatic naïveté, he argued that aggressive powers are not restrained by moral appeals.
“Dangerous psychotics require either a straitjacket or a timely injection of haloperidol—just as happened last night in the west of the Banderite Ukraine,” Medvedev said, referencing recent events in Ukraine as an example. (PW)
