Russia - Prominent Russian philosopher and geopolitical theorist Alexander Dugin has declared a profound symbolic and political victory for the Islamic Republic of Iran following the recent United States congressional midterm elections.
Taking to the X social network, Dugin reacted to the Republican Party’s electoral retreat with a striking statement: “Exactly. Iran has won, and Baal has been defeated.”
The remark comes amid a significant shift in the US political landscape, where results indicate the Democratic Party has secured a commanding lead in both chambers of Congress. Democrats have thus far claimed 54 Senate seats and 228 House seats. Furthermore, the Republican Party has suffered notable setbacks, including the loss of four governorships across the country.
Highlighting the underlying causes of the electoral defeat, several close associates of US President Donald Trump have pointed to the administration’s aggressive posture and war against Iran as a primary factor behind the Republican losses at the polls. For Dugin, the electoral blowback against American imperial overreach is not merely a domestic political shift, but a geopolitical triumph for the Axis of Resistance.
The Russian thinker’s invocation of “Baal” carries deep historical and religious weight. In ancient Canaanite and Phoenician history, Baal was worshipped as a false deity in the Levant. The name holds a prominent place in Abrahamic religious texts as a symbol of idolatry and false power. In the Holy Quran (Surah as-Saffat, Chapter 37, The Ranged Ones, Verse 125), Prophet Elias (peace be upon him) famously reprimands his people for abandoning the One True Creator in favour of Baal, asking, “Do you call upon Baal and leave the best of creators?”
By equating the defeated political faction to Baal, Dugin frames the US midterm elections as a historical reckoning—where the arrogant, false idols of Western hegemony fall, while the resilient and steadfast nation of Iran emerges victorious.
