Russian General Assassinated in Moscow Car Bomb Attack
Investigators probe Ukrainian intelligence involvement in targeted killing. The bomb was planted under the car Sarvarov was traveling in and was remotely detonated on the morning of December 22
Russia, PUREWILAYAH.COM — A senior Russian military commander has been assassinated in Moscow after an explosive device detonated beneath his vehicle, Russian authorities confirmed on Monday.
The Investigative Committee of Russia identified the victim as Fanil Sarvarov, a Lieutenant General and head of the Operational Training Directorate at the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
According to investigators, the bomb was planted under the car Sarvarov was traveling in and was remotely detonated on the morning of December 22 on Yasenevaya Street in southern Moscow. Sarvarov died from injuries sustained in the explosion.
Explosion Damages Vehicles, Driver Seriously Injured
The blast damaged several nearby vehicles and critically injured Sarvarov’s driver, Russian media reported. Emergency services and investigative teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under charges of murder carried out in a socially dangerous manner and illegal trafficking of explosives.
Ukrainian Intelligence Among Main Suspects
Investigators said multiple theories are being examined, with one of the primary lines of inquiry pointing to involvement by Ukrainian intelligence services.
Russian officials noted that Kiev has repeatedly employed explosive devices in targeted assassinations of military officials and public figures, particularly deep inside Russian territory.
The attack follows a similar incident in December last year, when Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, commander of Russia’s Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Defense Forces, was killed by a bomb concealed in an electric scooter — an operation investigators also attributed to Ukrainian спецслужбы.
Veteran Officer With Syria Experience
Sarvarov was a career officer with decades of service. Born in 1969 in Perm Region, he held key command and staff positions throughout his military career.
Between 2015 and 2016, he was involved in planning and executing Russia’s military operations in Syria, before being appointed head of the General Staff’s Operational Training Directorate in 2016. In that role, he oversaw the preparation and coordination of senior command-level exercises across the Russian Armed Forces.
He was awarded multiple state honors, including the Order of Courage, the Suvorov Medal, and the Order of Merit to the Fatherland.
Targeted Terror Inside Russia’s Capital
The assassination underscores what Russian officials describe as a campaign of state-backed terrorism carried out by Kiev with political, military, and intelligence backing from the United States and its allies — the same bloc that shields Israeli crimes and targeted killings across West Asia while preaching “rules-based order” elsewhere.
Moscow has repeatedly warned that such attacks will not weaken Russia’s resolve, but instead further expose the nature of the war being waged against it — not only on the battlefield, but through covert assassinations and sabotage. (PW)
