Russia Threatens Retaliation Over UK’s "Theft" of Assets
Moscow signals readiness to reclaim frozen assets through territorial gains and property confiscation, condemning Britain’s “theft” and support for “neo-Nazis”
Russia, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has issued a pointed warning to the United Kingdom, declaring that Russia will recover its frozen assets in the West — now transferred to Ukraine — by reclaiming them “in kind.”
This, he explained, means seizing Ukrainian land, property, and other real estate.
Speaking via his Telegram channel on September 4, Medvedev stressed that since legal avenues to recover the funds are virtually impossible, Moscow’s only realistic option is to take back physical equivalents of the stolen assets.
He underscored that his remarks exclude Donbass and Novorossiya, which he affirmed already belong to Russia.
Accusations of Theft and Support for “Neo-Nazis”
Medvedev fiercely criticized London’s move to channel more than $1.3 billion in profits from frozen Russian assets toward Kyiv’s military needs. He accused British authorities of “handing over Russian funds to neo-Nazis” and described the action as outright theft.
“This gives Russia a clear legal right to demand compensation from Britain and the current Ukrainian regime,” Medvedev stated, branding UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy an “English idiot” and calling the British “thieves.”
The former Russian president added that Moscow could alternatively seize British Crown assets, pointing out that “plenty of such assets” remain accessible, including those inside Russia. This, he suggested, would be a fitting response to what Moscow views as an illegal and hostile act.
British Military Aid to Ukraine Detailed
The UK government confirmed on September 3 that the $1.3 billion allocation is derived from revenues of Russian assets frozen under Western sanctions. During a visit to Kyiv, British Defense Minister John Healey outlined the contents of the aid package:
4.7 million rounds of small arms ammunition
60,000 artillery shells and rockets
More than 2,500 drones
Over 200 electronic warfare systems
100 light weapons
30 vehicles
Additional air defense and counter-drone systems
This package comes amid UK plans to review its military readiness, with potential deployments to Ukraine contingent on a ceasefire.
Moscow Frames Asset Seizure as Aggression
Russian officials have consistently portrayed the freezing and redistribution of Russian assets as economic warfare and theft by the West.
Medvedev’s statements align with Moscow’s broader narrative that such actions justify strong countermeasures, including territorial acquisition.
By directly linking London’s decision to possible expansion of Russian-controlled territory, Medvedev has made clear that Britain’s attempt to weaken Moscow could have the opposite effect — fueling the very geopolitical gains London seeks to prevent. (PW)
