Russia Slams Belgian Minister’s Threat to ‘Wipe Moscow Off the Map’
Moscow condemns “provocative and irresponsible” remarks, calls them a symptom of Western military hysteria
Russia, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken sparked outrage in Moscow after suggesting that NATO could “wipe Moscow off the map.”
In an interview with De Morgen published Monday, Francken dismissed fears that supplying Ukraine with US-made Tomahawk missiles could spark a full-scale conflict between Russia and NATO.
He argued that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not resort to nuclear weapons because the US-led alliance “will wipe Moscow off the map.”
Francken added that he did not fear a conventional strike on Brussels, saying it would only lead to Moscow being “flattened.”
Russia’s Response
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Grushko described Francken’s statements as part of the “atmosphere of military psychosis” spreading across Western Europe.
The Russian Embassy in Belgium issued a separate statement condemning the Belgian minister’s comments as “provocative and irresponsible,” calling them “sheer absurdity and total disconnect from reality.”
“Francken’s escapades are the most glaring manifestation of the militarist frenzy that is increasingly consuming the European war party,” the embassy said, warning that such rhetoric “poses a threat to the continent’s future and could plunge it into a new war.”
Broader Context
Moscow has repeatedly warned that the continued supply of Western arms to Ukraine will not deter Russian military operations but will instead escalate the conflict further.
The incident adds to growing tensions between Russia and NATO states amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the alliance’s continued expansion of arms deliveries to Kyiv. (PW)
