Rubio Visit Israel, US Back Tel Aviv Ahead of Arab-Islamic Summit
The trip underscores the United States’ continued alignment with the occupation despite growing calls for accountability over its actions in Gaza and Doha.
USA, PUREWILAYAH.COM - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in “Israel” on Sunday to reaffirm Washington’s alliance with Tel Aviv, just days after the unprecedented Israeli strike on Qatar that has drawn broad international criticism.
The visit coincides with preparations for an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, where dozens of countries are expected to gather to coordinate a joint response against Israel.
The trip underscores the United States’ continued alignment with the occupation despite growing calls for accountability over its actions in Gaza and Doha.
Before his departure, Rubio acknowledged to reporters that President Donald Trump was “not happy” with the strike but quickly emphasized that it would “not change the nature of our relationship with the Israelis.”
He added that Washington and Tel Aviv would need to discuss how the incident might affect ongoing truce efforts in Gaza.
Israeli Strike in Doha
The attack in Doha targeted senior Hamas officials who were reportedly meeting to consider a US-backed ceasefire proposal.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the operation, claiming the elimination of Hamas leaders would remove obstacles to ending the war. The assassination attempt failed, however, and instead stalled negotiations.
Trump described the strike as “unfortunate” and criticized Netanyahu, noting that Washington learned of the operation too late to intervene.
Nevertheless, the United States has not moved to impose any consequences, signaling that its backing of Israel remains unchanged.
Betrayal of Allies
Analysts in the Gulf characterized the Israeli action as a betrayal, warning that the ability of Tel Aviv to strike inside the territory of a key US partner without repercussions undermines regional confidence in American security guarantees.
The controversy is especially stark as Qatar recently deepened its ties with Washington, pledging over a trillion dollars in economic commitments with the United States while simultaneously serving as mediator in Gaza ceasefire negotiations.
Qatar’s Regional Pushback
In response, Qatar’s prime minister announced on September 10 that consultations were underway with regional allies to coordinate a collective response to Israel. He confirmed that an emergency Arab-Islamic summit would be convened in Doha in the coming days to address the strike and its broader implications.
Washington’s Agenda
Despite the diplomatic storm, Rubio pressed ahead with his schedule, which included talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott, the purpose of the mission is to counter what he termed “anti-Israel” measures, such as moves toward unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state.
Pigott added that Rubio would meet with families of captives and stress Washington’s objective of ensuring Hamas can never again govern Gaza. (PW)
