Rome Negotiations Exposed: Zionist Preconditions Seek to Disarm the Resistance and Subjugate Lebanon

The seventh round of so-called negotiations between the Lebanese government and the occupying Zionist regime, operating under the deceptive umbrella of U.S. “mediation,” has ended in a complete deadlock in Rome. With the continuation of these fruitless talks postponed until September 1, the diplomatic process has descended into an endless, circular trap. Meanwhile, the Zionist enemy continues its relentless bombardment and illegal occupation of southern Lebanon without facing any serious obstacles on the ground.
The Illusion of Mediation and Imposed Dictates
The proposals aggressively pushed during the Rome meetings have laid bare the true intentions of the American-Zionist axis. Their primary goal is not to secure Lebanon’s sovereignty or end the occupation, but rather to enforce the enemy’s dictates. These malicious proposals seek to severely limit the Lebanese government’s political and security functions, establish foreign guardianship over the nation’s citizens, and even subject Lebanese identities to verification by external, hostile bodies.
A Vicious Cycle of Capitulation
Lebanese political analyst Salem Zahran, director of the “Media Focus” center, recently shed light on the behind-the-scenes realities of the Rome meetings. He noted that the talks collapsed into a vicious cycle due to irreconcilable differences over implementation mechanisms and the sequencing of commitments—most notably regarding the Zionist withdrawal and security guarantees.
“The Zionist entity appears determined to make the dismantling of the Islamic Resistance’s military infrastructure a non-negotiable precondition for any tangible withdrawal,” Zahran explained. While the Resistance demands the immediate end of the occupation, Lebanon’s official delegation is attempting a gradual approach, desperately trying to link any Lebanese commitments to reciprocal, concrete steps from the occupier.
However, with the Zionist regime distracted by internal political calculations and upcoming elections, the enemy has no intention of offering genuine concessions. Instead, the talks have merely become a stalling tactic to manage differences and draw negotiating red lines rather than a path to liberation.
Targeting the Shield of Lebanon
By merely agreeing to discuss American and Zionist drafts, the Lebanese government has inadvertently allowed the enemy to shift the narrative. The discourse has dangerously pivoted from defending Lebanon’s absolute sovereignty to debating the “reorganisation” of military and political power within the country. The weapons of the Resistance—Hezbollah—are now being falsely presented as an obstacle to a solution, rather than the very shield that protects Lebanon from Zionist atrocities.
Zahran warned that any Lebanese concessions that are not met with clear, binding Zionist commitments will turn the negotiations into a one-sided surrender. “The government’s room for manoeuvre depends entirely on its ability to distinguish between what it accepts as a mere negotiation framework and what it actually commits to on the ground,” he stated.
Threats to National Independence
Accepting the Zionist precondition of “dismantling Hezbollah’s military infrastructure” as a prerequisite for withdrawal would be a catastrophic blow to Lebanon’s independent decision-making. It would place the nation under a humiliating equation where Lebanon must fulfil internal concessions before receiving any clear commitment from the occupier.
Ultimately, such an approach would grant the Zionist enemy veto power over Lebanon’s security and military priorities. It creates a severe dilemma for national sovereignty, effectively subjecting the independent actions of the Lebanese state and its Resistance to the evaluation and rejection of foreign, hostile powers.
