Rezaei: Trump Agreed to Partial Release of Frozen Iranian Assets
Senior Iranian official says Washington agreed to release part of Iran’s blocked funds, while sources report U.S. pressure failed to force changes to a proposed understanding between the two sides.
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Senior Iranian official Mohsen Rezaei says U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to release part of Iran’s frozen assets, although Washington has yet to publicly acknowledge the move.
Speaking on Friday, Rezaei stated that Trump had accepted the release of 24 billion dollars in blocked Iranian funds but remained unwilling to announce the decision openly.
“Trump has agreed to release 24 billion dollars of Iran’s frozen assets, but he is not prepared to state this publicly,” Rezaei said.
His remarks came amid reports that negotiations surrounding a proposed 14-point memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States are approaching a critical stage.
Iran Rejects U.S. Pressure
According to informed sources cited by Tasnim News Agency, recent American military and diplomatic pressure failed to secure changes to the draft memorandum under discussion.
The sources said Washington attempted to alter the text through direct pressure, military actions, and mediation efforts involving Qatar. However, Iran reportedly rejected the proposed amendments and maintained its position.
The same sources indicated that the United States later informed Tehran through Qatari intermediaries that the latest American revisions were no longer necessary.
Despite the progress made in negotiations, Iranian officials stressed that the text has not yet received final approval from the relevant authorities inside Iran.
Until that process is completed, they said, reports claiming that a final agreement has already been reached should be treated as speculation.
Draft Understanding Still Awaiting Approval
Iranian sources emphasized that the proposed memorandum remains under review by the country’s decision-making institutions and has not yet been formally endorsed.
The development follows comments by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who recently said an understanding with the United States could be announced within days but had not yet been finalized.
Officials maintain that any announcement will depend on final approval procedures and the completion of remaining negotiations.
Rezaei Highlights Iran’s Military Deterrence
Rezaei also stressed that Iran’s military capabilities played a decisive role in shaping the current diplomatic environment.
He said Iran had demonstrated an unprecedented level of deterrence and said Washington had been forced to reconsider its approach toward Tehran.
“The country’s deterrent power has reached a level where even Trump fears negotiating with Iran,” Rezaei said.
He further praised the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ asymmetric warfare doctrine, arguing that low-cost drones and fast attack boats have altered traditional military calculations and challenged far more expensive military systems.
According to Rezaei, recent confrontations revealed Iran’s capabilities to a global audience and strengthened the country’s strategic position.
“If these attacks had never occurred, many around the world would never have understood the capabilities and strength of Iran’s Armed Forces and its people,” he said. (PW)
