Putin, Larijani Hold Strategic Talks in Moscow
The two sides also held strategic consultations on key regional and international developments, reflecting the depth of coordination between the two countries.
Moscow | PUREWILAYAH.COM - Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, during his official visit to Moscow, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali confirmed on Friday.
According to Ambassador Jalali, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on economic relations between Tehran and Moscow.
The two sides also held strategic consultations on key regional and international developments, reflecting the depth of coordination between the two countries.
Jalali was quoted by Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB as saying:
“The main topic of the talks was expanding bilateral relations, particularly economic ties between the two countries. At the same time, the two sides held consultations on important regional and international issues.”
Kremlin Confirms Meeting, Signals Strategic Importance
Earlier, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that President Putin received Larijani at the Kremlin, underscoring the strategic importance Moscow attaches to its growing partnership with Iran.
The meeting comes amid sustained Western pressure on both countries and highlights Russia’s continued engagement with Iran as a sovereign regional power, particularly in the face of U.S.-driven confrontation and destabilization efforts in West Asia.
Iran–Russia Ties Advance Despite U.S. Threats
The talks took place as tensions escalate following open threats by U.S. President Donald Trump against Iran—threats widely viewed as part of Washington’s long-standing policy of coercion, intimidation, and militarization against independent regional actors.
Despite this hostile climate, Iran and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation across political, economic, and strategic domains, rejecting U.S. pressure and interference. Moscow has repeatedly emphasized the need for diplomatic solutions while defending Iran’s sovereignty and opposing unilateral aggression.
Economic and Strategic Coordination Continues
In a related development, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko held talks earlier this week with his Iranian counterpart Hamed Qanbari to review ongoing trade and economic cooperation.
According to a statement published on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website, the discussions included a comprehensive review of trade, economic, and investment cooperation, with a focus on implementing agreements reached at the highest levels and advancing large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in transport and energy.
Both sides also expressed satisfaction with preparations for the upcoming session of the Russian–Iranian Permanent Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, scheduled to take place in Tehran from February 16 to 18.
The intensification of Iran–Russia coordination reflects a broader realignment in the international system, as independent states deepen partnerships to counter U.S. dominance, sanctions warfare, and destabilization policies.
As Washington continues to threaten and pressure Iran while unconditionally backing Israeli aggression in the region, Tehran and Moscow are advancing a multipolar framework based on sovereignty, mutual respect, and resistance to external coercion. (PW)
