Putin: Iran Has the Right to Peaceful Nuclear Technology
We believe that Iran has the right to use nuclear power for peaceful purposes. And we are prepared, as we have been in previous years, to provide the necessary support in this field,” said Putin
Russia, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Russian President Vladimir Putin has reiterated his country’s support for Iran’s right to develop and utilize nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
In an interview following the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Friday, Putin made the remarks during a conversation with session moderator Nadim Koteich, general manager of Sky News Arabia.
“We believe that Iran has the right to use nuclear power for peaceful purposes. And we are prepared, as we have been in previous years, to provide the necessary support in this field,” said Putin.
He also emphasized that Russia firmly opposes nuclear weapons proliferation, adding:
“The International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA] confirms that there is no evidence of Iranian efforts to acquire nuclear weapons.”
Tensions escalated last week when Israel launched a series of military strikes against Iranian targets, citing concerns over what it claimed was Tehran’s accelerating push toward nuclear weapons capability. Israeli officials stated the attacks were necessary to halt Iran’s alleged progress.
In response, Iran—insisting its nuclear program is solely for civilian purposes—launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes against Israeli military positions.
Putin: No Evidence of Weapons Program, Dialogue Is the Way Forward
In his interview, President Putin criticized the narrative of Iran’s nuclear threat, stating that Moscow has consistently informed Tel Aviv that there is no credible proof of Iranian intentions to develop a nuclear arsenal.
He called for both Iran and Israel to resolve their differences through diplomatic means rather than military escalation.
IAEA: Iran Enriching Uranium, But Still Within Boundaries
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, noted in a report earlier this month that Iran is currently the only non-nuclear-armed state enriching uranium to 60%. Despite this, there is still no official evidence that Iran is working to build nuclear weapons.
Similarly, U.S. intelligence agencies have stated there is no indication that Tehran is pursuing a nuclear weapon.
Trump Contradicts Intelligence, Calls for Iran’s Surrender
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has disputed these assessments, asserting that Iran was “very close” to acquiring a nuclear weapon at the time of the Israeli strikes. He called for Iran’s “unconditional surrender” and warned of possible American military involvement if the situation escalates further. (PW)
