Putin Hails ‘Unprecedented’ Russia–China Alliance as Pillar of Multipolar World
In an exclusive interview, Putin lauds deepening ties with Xi Jinping, calls for defending WWII historical truth, and outlines strategic cooperation to counter Western dominance.
Russia, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Ahead of his official visit to the People’s Republic of China, Russian President Vladimir Putin described the Russia–China relationship as being at an “unprecedented” level, underscoring their shared vision for a fairer multipolar world order.
Putin recalled the “resounding success” of President Xi Jinping’s May state visit to Moscow, which coincided with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
He said the visit symbolized the strategic choice of both nations to strengthen good-neighbourliness, friendship, and long-term cooperation across political, economic, and cultural spheres.
During his upcoming trip, Putin will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin and hold talks in Beijing with Xi on “all aspects” of the bilateral agenda, including political, security, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation.
Defending Historical Truth Against Revisionism
Putin stressed the historical solidarity forged when the Soviet Union and China bore the heaviest sacrifices in World War II, defeating Nazism and Japanese militarism.
He recounted Soviet military support to China in the 1930s, the Manchurian Strategic Offensive in 1945, and how Chinese resistance prevented Japan from attacking the USSR’s eastern flank during the war’s darkest months.
The Russian leader accused certain Western states of “barbaric” desecration of Soviet war memorials and of revising WWII outcomes to erase the culpability of their predecessors, thereby encouraging “revanchism and neo-Nazism.”
“Russia and China resolutely condemn any attempts to distort the history of the Second World War, glorify Nazis and militarists, or defame Soviet liberators,” Putin said, reaffirming their shared commitment to preserving the inviolable results of the war as enshrined in the UN Charter.
Expanding Economic and Industrial Cooperation
Putin noted that bilateral trade with China has grown by $100 billion since 2021, with transactions increasingly conducted in rubles and yuan instead of dollars or euros. China is now Russia’s top trading partner, while Russia is among China’s top five partners.
Key areas of cooperation include:
Oil, gas, and LNG exports, including over 100 bcm of gas delivered via the Power of Siberia pipeline since 2019 and plans for a Far Eastern route by 2027.
Growing agricultural exports such as pork and beef.
Large-scale joint projects in high-tech manufacturing, infrastructure, and construction materials.
Expanding automotive and appliance production in Russia with Chinese partners.
Deepening Cultural and Humanitarian Ties
Putin highlighted cultural exchanges, from the 2024–2025 Russia–China Years of Culture to educational cooperation, with over 51,000 Chinese students in Russia and 21,000 Russian students in China.
The two sides are also cooperating in film production, tourism—seeing a 2.5-fold increase in mutual visits to 2.8 million in 2024—and sports, including the BRICS Games. Education and scientific research remain a priority, with plans for joint institutes and modern laboratories in advanced fields.
SCO, BRICS, and the Global South
Putin praised the SCO’s evolution into a key platform for regional security and cooperation, noting its expansion to include India, Pakistan, Iran, and Belarus. He stressed its principles of equality, non-confrontation, and respect for national uniqueness as a model for international relations.
The Russian president also lauded BRICS as a “key pillar” of global architecture, highlighting joint efforts to expand economic opportunities, mobilize resources for infrastructure, and resist “discriminatory sanctions” harming global development.
Putin backed reform of the UN, IMF, and World Bank to reflect modern realities, ensure equitable representation for Asia, Africa, and Latin America, and end the use of finance as a tool of neo-colonialism.
A United Front Against Western Hegemony
Throughout the interview, Putin portrayed Russia–China cooperation as a stabilizing force in Eurasia and the wider world, united by a shared vision to protect the Global South’s interests, defend historical truth, and promote a fairer world order.
“President Xi Jinping is a true leader of a great world power, a man of strong will, endowed with strategic vision and a global outlook,” Putin said.
“It is of exceptional importance for China, and for the world, that such a person stands at the helm at this pivotal moment in international affairs.” (PW)
