Putin Condemns U.S. Attack on Iran as Unjustified in Talks with Araghchi
Putin condemned the recent U.S. military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities as unprovoked aggression, stating that there was “absolutely no justification” for the attack
Russia, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the recent U.S. military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities as “unprovoked aggression,” stating that there was “absolutely no justification” for the attack.
He made these remarks during a meeting in Moscow with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday, just two days after the operation authorized by President Donald Trump.
Russia Expresses Support for the Iranian People
Putin emphasized that Russia was actively seeking to support the Iranian people during this period of heightened tensions.
“I am very glad that you are in Moscow today,” he said in televised remarks.
“This will give us the opportunity to discuss all these pressing issues and think together about how we could get out of today’s situation.”
Araghchi: Russia Today Is on the Right Side of History
Foreign Minister Araghchi thanked Moscow for its strong condemnation of the U.S. strikes and delivered messages from Iran’s Leader and President.
“Russia is today on the right side of history and international law,” Araghchi stated, stressing that Iran’s actions were taken in legitimate self-defense.
While the full extent of Russia’s support was not revealed, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Moscow had already offered to mediate.
“It all depends on what Iran needs,” he said. “A new spiral of escalation of tension in the region has happened. And of course, we condemn this and express deep regret.”
Trump Did Not Inform Putin of the Operation
Peskov further confirmed that President Trump did not provide prior notice to Putin regarding the military operation.
“There was no detailed information,” he said. “The topic of Iran itself was repeatedly discussed by the presidents during their most recent conversations... but there was no direct detailed information about this.”
Although Iran and Russia signed a strategic cooperation treaty in January, the agreement does not include a mutual defense clause. Nevertheless, the high-level meeting on Monday highlighted the growing alignment between the two countries in response to increased Western pressure.
The Kremlin warned that continued U.S. aggression in the Middle East risks plunging the region into "the abyss."
Araghchi’s Diplomatic Mission to Moscow
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Moscow on Monday to hold discussions with Russian officials. The purpose of the visit was to bolster bilateral efforts amid growing regional tensions.
Speaking to reporters upon arrival, Araghchi stressed the need for “more careful, more serious, and closer stances” between Tehran and Moscow.
He highlighted the longstanding tradition of close cooperation between Iran and Russia and emphasized that under current conditions, “the consultations between Iran and Russia will be highly significant.”
Araghchi once again thanked Moscow for its strong condemnation of the U.S. strikes.
U.S. Aggression Expands Scope of Visit
Araghchi noted that the trip was originally intended to address Israeli aggression, but the agenda had expanded due to the U.S. attack on Iran.
“Iran and Russia share common concerns and common enemies,” he said, affirming that both nations remain committed to facing regional threats together.
This meeting followed closely after Russia, China, and Pakistan jointly submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council, calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East in response to U.S. escalation and the attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, which has triggered global concern.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had arrived in Moscow on Sunday to initiate high-level talks with Russian leadership.
“We confirm the arrival of the Iranian Foreign Minister in Moscow for a series of talks,” stated Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry. (PW)
