Putin Backs Maduro as U.S. Escalates Confrontation in the Caribbean
Russian president expresses solidarity with Venezuela’s struggle against Washington’s pressure campaign, reaffirming strategic partnership amid rising tensions.
Russia, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Russian President Vladimir Putin has voiced strong support for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro as the United States intensifies its military and economic pressure in the Caribbean.
In a phone call on Thursday, Putin underscored the importance of defending national sovereignty and resisting foreign interference — a message that aligns with Venezuela’s vow to confront Washington’s escalating operations in the region.
According to the Kremlin, Putin reaffirmed his “solidarity with the people of Venezuela” and backed the Maduro government’s determination to safeguard its national interests against U.S. pressure.
Putin–Maduro Phone Call Reaffirms Deepening Strategic Ties
During their conversation, both leaders emphasized the strength and growth of Moscow–Caracas relations.
They reiterated their commitment to the strategic partnership treaty signed in May, which continues to anchor cooperation between the two countries.
The Venezuelan government stated that the call highlighted the “strategic, strong, and growing nature of bilateral relations,” adding that Putin supported Maduro’s efforts to consolidate peace, political stability, and economic development.
U.S. Seizure of Venezuelan Oil Tanker Sparks Outrage
The phone call came shortly after the United States seized an oil tanker that had departed a Venezuelan port earlier this month.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi claimed the vessel had been sanctioned for allegedly transporting oil from Iran.
Caracas denounced the seizure as an act of piracy, accusing Washington of attempting to “plunder” Venezuela’s natural resources under the guise of enforcement operations.
U.S. Militarization of the Caribbean Heightens Regional Tension
The United States has deployed a naval armada to the Caribbean, striking more than 20 alleged drug boats in international waters since September.
According to Reuters, Washington is preparing to intercept additional vessels transporting Venezuelan oil as part of a broader pressure campaign against Maduro, whom President Donald Trump accuses — without evidence in the report — of aiding drug cartels.
Maduro firmly rejected these allegations, insisting his government has no ties to drug trafficking. He condemned Washington’s actions as “colonialist” and warned the U.S. against launching “a crazy war” in the region.
Venezuela Vows to Resist U.S. Aggression
Maduro pledged to defend Venezuela against any potential invasion, signaling that Caracas will not yield to Washington’s coercive tactics.
The reaffirmed support from Moscow underscores Venezuela’s alignment with partners who reject U.S. interventionism and back the country’s right to chart its own course. (PW)
