Putin Arrives in China for SCO Summit and WWII Anniversary Events
Russian president to hold talks with Xi Jinping, attend Victory Day commemorations, and meet multiple world leaders
China, PUREWILAYAH.COM — President Vladimir Putin arrived in Tianjin on Sunday morning at the start of a four-day official visit to China, where he will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and join events marking the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II.
The Russian leader’s Ilyushin Il-96 touched down in the northern Chinese city as President Xi Jinping prepared to host the annual SCO gathering, which runs through September 1.
The summit is expected to focus on strengthening regional security, boosting economic cooperation, and deepening cultural and humanitarian ties among member states.
Discussions will also cover transport, energy, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and green development, with leaders set to adopt a final declaration and a long-term strategy through 2035.
Following the Tianjin meetings, Putin will travel to Beijing for bilateral talks with Xi on September 2. The agenda is expected to address economic partnerships, global security, and regional challenges, with particular attention to the Ukraine conflict and relations with the United States.
On September 3, Putin will take part in Victory Day commemorations in Beijing. He is also scheduled to hold about ten bilateral meetings with foreign leaders on the sidelines of the SCO summit, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
