Pentagon Chief Claims US-Iran Ceasefire Is “In Effect”
Pete Hegseth says a ceasefire with Iran is currently being implemented, despite continued U.S. violations and Tehran’s forceful responses to repeated provocations
United States, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Pete Hegseth claimed that a ceasefire between the United States and Iran is currently “in effect,” even as Washington continues to violate the arrangement and Tehran responds firmly to repeated provocations.
Speaking to CBS News, Hegseth described the situation as “very dynamic” but insisted that the ceasefire is being implemented.
“The ceasefire means that the firing has stopped,” he said, adding that multiple discussions are underway through the U.S. negotiating team.
His remarks come despite repeated American violations of the ceasefire, which Iranian officials and media say have been met with decisive and effective responses from Tehran.
Tehran Responds to Repeated Violations
Iranian sources have emphasized that while Washington has repeatedly breached the ceasefire, the Islamic Republic has answered each violation with forceful retaliatory measures.
Tehran has consistently stated that it remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and respond to any renewed aggression.
Trump Repeats Unrealistic Claims
In separate remarks, Donald Trump once again asserted that Iran would eventually halt uranium enrichment under U.S. pressure.
Trump claimed it was only “a matter of time” before Tehran ends enrichment activities and said Washington has maintained direct contacts with Iranian officials, while also insisting that the United States is under no pressure to reach an agreement.
Iranian commentators have described such statements as recurring expressions of wishful thinking that bear little resemblance to the realities on the ground.
Iran Maintains Its Sovereign Rights
Iran has repeatedly affirmed that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful and that uranium enrichment is an inalienable sovereign right under international law.
Tehran has also made clear that continued violations and hostile actions will be met with firm and proportionate responses, while diplomatic efforts proceed on the basis of mutual respect and recognition of Iran’s legitimate rights. (PW)
