Oman Counsellor Highlights Shiraz’s Medical Tourism Potential
Underlining the strategic opportunity, the Omani envoy calls for enhanced cooperation to position Shiraz as a regional medical hub.
Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - In a recent statement, Haitham Al-Sanani, Advisor to the Omani Ambassador to Iran, underscored Shiraz’s growing reputation as a center for advanced healthcare and medical tourism. He praised the city’s hospitals, clinics, and specialised physicians, noting that Shiraz has long been recognised for its skilled surgeons and modern facilities that attract patients from across the region.
Al-Sanani emphasised that the development of medical tourism in Shiraz is not only an economic opportunity but also a humanitarian service that strengthens ties between Iran and Oman. He noted that Omani patients already choose Shiraz for treatment in areas such as organ transplants, cardiac surgery, and fertility care, and called for more structured cooperation between the two nations to expand these services.
The Omani diplomat pointed out that Shiraz’s strategic location, cultural familiarity, and affordability compared to Western medical systems make it especially appealing for patients from the Gulf and beyond. He further suggested that joint initiatives, including streamlined visa processes, direct flights, and bilateral agreements between health ministries, would significantly boost patient access and confidence.
Local Iranian officials welcomed his remarks, highlighting that Shiraz has invested heavily in medical infrastructure, including internationally recognised hospitals, research centers, and highly trained specialists. They affirmed that strengthening collaboration with Oman and other neighbouring countries aligns with Iran’s broader strategy to position itself as a medical hub for West Asia.
Observers believe that with proper investment, coordination, and promotion, Shiraz could rival leading medical tourism destinations in Asia, combining healthcare excellence with Iran’s renowned hospitality and cultural heritage. (PW)
