Speaking at the BRICS Business Forum, President Pezeshkian urged member states to abandon “monopolistic instruments” and accelerate trade in national currencies. He proposed transforming the New Development Bank (NDB) into the primary engine for infrastructure and energy financing. With Iran’s central bank already preparing to integrate into the NDB, the mechanism to bypass crushing US sanctions is no longer theoretical—it is imminent.

President Pezeshkian laid out four clear priorities for the future of global governance: upholding sovereignty, restructuring biased institutions like the UN Security Council, expanding independent economic cooperation, and confronting unilateral sanctions. As he rightly pointed out, international rules can no longer be binding on some nations while remaining open to interpretation for the imperial powers that orchestrate global crises.
