Mourners in Tanzania Honour the Islamic Revolution's Martyred Leader
Hundreds gather at Iran's cultural center in Dar es Salaam in solidarity with the funeral processions sweeping Iran for Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei
Hundreds of mourners gathered in Tanzania on Sunday to commemorate the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, in a show of solidarity with the millions of Iranians taking part in funeral processions across Iran.
The memorial was held at the Cultural Center of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s largest city, where those in attendance paid tribute to the late Leader. In several Tanzanian cities, supporters put up large billboards carrying his portrait alongside a symbolic image of his raised, clenched fist.
The ceremony opened with a seminar reflecting on Ayatollah Khamenei’s life and legacy. Addressing the gathering, the Islamic scholar Sheikh Mulaba Saleh honoured the Leader as “a great and fatherly figure who commanded the respect of the world.” He said Ayatollah Khamenei had devoted his life to God and had used every blessing granted to him to guide people from darkness toward light and to deliver them from oppression and injustice.
Iran’s ambassador to Tanzania, Mohammad Javad Hemmatpanah, also spoke, drawing attention to the martyred Leader’s deep conviction in the part young people have to play in carrying forward the aims of the Islamic system.
Ayatollah Khamenei was assassinated by the United States and Israel in an attack on his office in Tehran on February 28, the opening day of their joint aggression against Iran.
A week of funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader began on Friday, as foreign dignitaries and religious figures paid their respects at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla, followed by public farewell gatherings and funeral prayers in Tehran and the holy city of Qom. The rites are due to continue in the holy Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday, before concluding on July 9 in Ayatollah Khamenei’s hometown of Mashhad, where he will be laid to rest at the shrine of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam.
