Mass Shooting at Michigan LDS Church Leaves Four Dead, Eight Injured
This latest mass shooting follows a surge of violent attacks against churches and other religious institutions across the United States, as well as a series of politically motivated shootings
USA, PUREWILAYAH.COM – A gunman drove his truck into a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building in Grand Blanc, Michigan, where hundreds of worshippers had gathered on Sunday morning, opening fire on congregants before setting the structure ablaze.
According to ABC News, at least four people were killed and eight others were wounded in the combined shooting and fire. The attacker was later killed in an exchange of gunfire with responding police officers.
The assault began around 10:25 a.m. when a 40-year-old male suspect rammed his vehicle through the church’s main entrance and began firing an assault rifle at the congregation, Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye confirmed.
Police units arrived within minutes and engaged the gunman, who was fatally shot during the confrontation. Authorities said ten victims were transported to nearby hospitals. One victim died at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries later in the day.
The FBI has taken over the investigation, describing the incident as “an act of targeted violence.”
This latest mass shooting follows a surge of violent attacks against churches and other religious institutions across the United States, as well as a series of politically motivated shootings. It came just hours after a separate mass shooting at a waterfront bar in North Carolina left three people dead late Saturday night.
Fire and Investigation
Chief Renye reported that a fire broke out inside the church during the attack, which investigators believe was deliberately set by the suspect.
Drone footage taken earlier in the day showed the roof of the LDS church engulfed in flames. Authorities warned that additional victims could be discovered once the site is fully cleared.
Trump’s Response
US President Donald Trump condemned the incident as a “targeted attack on Christians” in a Truth Social post shortly after the shooting. He described the event as part of an “epidemic of violence” in the United States.
“The suspect is dead, but there is still a lot to learn,” Trump wrote. “This appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America. THIS EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST END, IMMEDIATELY!”
The attack comes just days after Trump pledged to combat what he called “radical left terrorism” following the killing of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk earlier this month. (PW)
