"Man-Made Starvation": UN Warns Gaza Faces Famine as Israel Tightens Siege
UN reports 90% of population in ‘acute food insecurity’ as Israel blocks aid trucks; ICJ genocide case looms over deliberate starvation tactics
Gaza City, PUREWILAYAH.COM – The United Nations has issued its most dire warning yet over Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe, revealing that Israeli restrictions have blocked critical aid, leaving 90% of the population in acute food insecurity and pushing the enclave toward full-blown famine.
Aid Blocked, Children Starving
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), only a trickle of humanitarian supplies is entering Gaza, with deliberate delays at Israeli checkpoints leaving food, water, and medicine rotting at border crossings.
1 in 3 children under age 2 now suffer from severe malnutrition, per UN data.
Over 500,000 Gazans (1 in 4 people) face "catastrophic" hunger levels—the highest ever recorded.
Northern Gaza cut off from aid, with Israeli forces repeatedly blocking or attacking aid convoys.
"Man-made starvation is taking place before our eyes," said Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA Commissioner-General.
Why Is Gaza Starving?
Total Siege on Imports: Israel has banned most food, fuel, and medical supplies since October, claiming "security risks."
Farmland & Bakeries Destroyed: Over 60% of Gaza’s cropland has been razed by Israeli bulldozers or bombing.
Aid Workers Targeted: At least 254 humanitarian staff killed in Israeli strikes, forcing many agencies to suspend operations.
International Condemnation Grows
The US and EU continue arming Israel despite ICJ rulings ordering immediate humanitarian access. Meanwhile, UN experts accuse Israel of using starvation as a "weapon of war."
"This is not a natural disaster—this is a politically engineered famine," said Jan Egeland, Secretary-General of the Norwegian Refugee Council.
What Happens Next?
With no ceasefire in sight, Gaza’s 2.3 million people now face:
Mass death from hunger and disease within weeks.
Total collapse of remaining hospitals as fuel runs out.
Aid airlifts & sea routes being explored—but Israel blocks most alternatives.
"History will judge those who watched this genocide and did nothing," warned South Africa’s Foreign Ministry, citing the UN Genocide Convention. (PW)
