Malnutrition Rate in Gaza Exceeds 90%
The GMO Director revealed that the rate of malnutrition among the population has exceeded 90%, according to field assessments. He warned that this alarming health deterioration is a direct result
Palestine, PUREWILAYAH.COM - The Director of the Government Media Office in Gaza, Ismail al-Thawabteh, revealed that the rate of malnutrition among the population has exceeded 90%, according to field assessments.
He warned that this alarming health deterioration is a direct result of the occupation’s policy of “deliberate starvation”, imposed through the ongoing restriction of essential aid entering the Strip.
Al-Thawabteh explained, in remarks to Anadolu Agency, that the occupation authorities allow no more than 200 trucks per day into Gaza—far below the 600 trucks stipulated in the binding humanitarian protocol that accompanied the ceasefire agreement.
He added: “What actually enters represents less than one-third, proving that hunger is being managed intentionally, slowly, and cumulatively.”
Israel Blocking Vital Food Supplies and Essential Goods
Al-Thawabteh stated that the occupation prevents dozens of essential food items from reaching Gaza, including red and white meat, proteins, table eggs, dairy products, and other materials necessary for growth and health—deepening the widespread malnutrition crisis among civilians.
He noted that Israel has failed to uphold the terms of the ceasefire agreement reached with Hamas on October 10, which obligated the entry of 600 trucks of aid daily.
According to data from the Government Media Office, the occupation has violated the agreement more than 497 times, killing 342 Palestinians since then.
He further confirmed that the occupation continues to block the entry of heavy machinery and equipment needed by Civil Defense teams to recover the bodies of martyrs from beneath the rubble, describing this as “a flagrant violation of all humanitarian laws.”
Gaza Facing a Systematic, Multi-Layered Crime
Al-Thawabteh emphasized that the occupation “maintains a full siege and uses it to control the flow of goods to create an increasingly fragile humanitarian environment.”
He stressed that the continuation of such actions amounts to a “compound crime of deliberate starvation and obstruction of relief,” urging mediators and guarantor parties to exert serious pressure on Israel to fulfill its commitments and immediately halt its violations.
The ceasefire agreement ended a two-year genocide launched by the occupation starting on October 8, 2023, which resulted in more than 69,000 Palestinian martyrs, over 170,000 wounded, and massive destruction affecting 90% of civilian infrastructure, with initial damages estimated at $70 billion.
