Maduro: Venezuela Foils CIA False-Flag Plot to Attack US Warship
Venezuelan president says detained mercenaries confessed to plans to attack a US Navy vessel and blame Caracas, calling it a provocative CIA-backed operation
Venezuela, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced that the CIA planned to use domestic mercenaries to attack US ships and falsely accuse the Caracas government, as authorities report the arrest of a group allegedly involved in the plot.
According to Maduro, the recently detained individuals confessed they were working with the US Central Intelligence Agency to execute a provocation against Venezuela.
Maduro stated that the objective of the group was to strike a US warship in the Caribbean and then blame Venezuela for the attack, setting the stage for increased hostilities and further pressure against Caracas.
International media reported that the detained mercenaries planned to target the USS Gravely, a US Navy destroyer participating in joint drills with Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. Venezuela described the plan as a “military provocation and false-flag operation.”
Venezuelan Authorities Arrest Suspects, Legal Proceedings Underway
Venezuelan officials said the arrests were carried out with cooperation from the country’s security agencies, and legal proceedings have now begun. Maduro warned that Venezuela will deliver a “firm response” to any attempt against its sovereignty.
No US Response Yet as Media Seek Official Comments
Outlets including The Independent and Reuters reported that Caracas has not yet released full details on the identities of the detainees or technical evidence of the plot, and Washington has not issued an official response to the accusations.
The development comes after US President Donald Trump previously acknowledged that the CIA conducts covert missions in Venezuela — a statement the Maduro government cites as proof of Washington’s ongoing efforts to destabilize the country. (PW)
