Maduro: US Seeks to Control Venezuela Through a Puppet Government
Venezuelan president denounces US threats as colonial, warns against attempts to seize national resources
Venezuela, PUREWILAYAH.COM — Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has accused the United States of attempting to impose a puppet government in Caracas as part of a broader strategy to colonize Venezuela and seize its natural resources.
Speaking during a ceremony commemorating the death of South American liberator Simón Bolívar, Maduro described recent US threats and claims over Venezuelan territory and resources as “belligerent and colonial,” warning that Washington seeks to undermine the country’s sovereignty.
Maduro Warns of Regime Change and Colonial Ambitions
“They are seeking regime change to impose a puppet government in Venezuela to hand over our constitution and sovereignty and turn the country into a colony,” Maduro said early Thursday.
He stated that US actions are aimed at reducing Venezuela to a dependent outpost, stripping it of control over its land and wealth. Maduro emphasized that Venezuela remains “a free and independent republic, capable of defending its sovereignty under any circumstances.”
The Venezuelan president also called for unity with neighboring Colombia, stating that “the greatest guarantee of peace and stability is unity.”
US Measures Described as Belligerent and Colonial
Maduro addressed recent actions taken by US President Donald Trump, including the designation of the Venezuelan government as a foreign terrorist organization and the announcement of a “total and complete” blockade on sanctioned oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela.
“The threats from the United States government and their statement that all our resources and lands also belong to them is simply a belligerent and colonial claim,” Maduro said.
Venezuela Appeals to the United Nations
Later on Wednesday, Venezuela’s Permanent Representative to the United States, Samuel Moncada, submitted a formal letter to the UN Security Council, rejecting US claims to Venezuelan oil and national assets as “delusional.”
“In the history of Venezuela, never before had a Head of State and/or Government of a foreign power come up with the deranged idea that the Venezuelan national territory, including its oil fields and other assets, belonged to them,” Moncada wrote.
He warned that Washington’s demands are part of a growing “delirium,” adding that military aggression is being threatened if Venezuela does not comply. Moncada also criticized what he described as Washington’s “addiction” to oil.
In his letter, Moncada called for an urgent Security Council meeting to address what he described as “ongoing US aggression,” invoking Article 39 of the UN Charter and urging the Council to take action to restore international legality. (PW)
