Maduro Hails UN Rights Chief for Condemning U.S. Violations in the Caribbean
Maduro hailed the statement as a significant step toward defending global sovereignty and restraining unlawful U.S. interventionism.
Venezuela, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has welcomed remarks by United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, who condemned U.S. military operations in the Caribbean and Pacific as violations of international law.
Maduro hailed the statement as a significant step toward defending global sovereignty and restraining unlawful U.S. interventionism.
Speaking during the 96th broadcast of his program Con Maduro +, the president referred to Türk’s comments as a turning point.
“Volker Türk, whom we have often criticized, has made a fair and fortunate statement,” Maduro said. “He denounced that the U.S. operations in the Caribbean and the Pacific constitute violations of international law and extrajudicial executions.”
Maduro emphasized that the UN rights chief “put the dots on the i’s,” describing the stance as “an important step in defending international law” and an affirmation that abuses committed under the guise of U.S. military authority cannot go unchecked.
“A man who defends human rights and denounces crimes like these is worth listening to and engaging in dialogue with,” he added.
UN Condemnation of U.S. Military Actions
Türk recently condemned U.S. attacks on small boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, which reportedly resulted in dozens of deaths, including civilians. He called the strikes “unacceptable” and urged Washington to halt such operations, warning that no government may carry out lethal actions beyond its borders with impunity.
According to French and UN sources cited by Caracas, Türk demanded “prompt, independent, and transparent investigations” into the incidents and reaffirmed the obligation of states to respect international law.
Venezuela responded by publicly thanking the High Commissioner, noting that it has repeatedly denounced these U.S. actions in global forums, including cases involving the destruction of civilian vessels under the pretext of anti-narcotics operations.
Sovereignty and the Global South
Maduro reiterated Venezuela’s position that “the sovereignty of the Caribbean cannot be violated by foreign powers,” asserting that Türk’s stance “opens a door for dialogue within the framework of respect for the peoples of the Global South.”
He framed the remarks as a rare moment of balance within multilateral institutions, often criticized by Caracas and its allies for long-standing Western influence.
The Venezuelan leader reaffirmed that his government will continue reporting what he described as crimes “committed by imperialism in Caribbean waters and anywhere in the world” to the UN and other international bodies.
“Our commitment is to peace, respect for international law, and regional cooperation,” Maduro concluded. (PW)
