PARIS — The streets of France are once again ablaze with public fury as President Emmanuel Macron faces a dual crisis of skyrocketing domestic poverty and the severe economic blowback from the Zionist-American war of aggression against Iran.
What began as localised demonstrations by school students in the suburbs of Paris has rapidly snowballed into a nationwide movement, exposing the deep fractures in Macron’s leadership and the heavy cost of his administration’s complicity in Western imperialist ventures.
Students and Workers Pushed to the Brink
Driven by a crippling cost of living crisis, housing insecurity, and drastic cuts to public services, hundreds of thousands of French citizens took to the streets this past Saturday. While the French Interior Ministry estimated 550,000 demonstrators, labour unions like the CGT reported over 800,000 participants in what Reuters described as one of the largest waves of protests and riots in recent decades.
The youth of France are bearing the brunt of the economic collapse. Alice Cohen-Morzedec, a spokesperson for the French student union, highlighted the grim reality facing the younger generation, noting that one in two students can no longer afford adequate food, while only one in three have stable accommodation.
Instead of addressing these legitimate grievances, the Macron regime has resorted to brute force. French authorities have met peaceful demands for basic human needs with violent crackdowns and modern suppression tactics, resulting in thousands of arrests and further inflaming public anger.
The Backlash of Imperialist Wars
While Macron attempts to blame global markets, analysts point to a much darker reality: the French people are paying the price for the US-Israeli war machine. The Zionist-American aggression against Iran, launched in February, has severely disrupted global energy markets and created deep anxieties over shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz.
This energy shock has hit Europe hard, acting as a primary transmission belt for economic misery. France’s inflation rate surged to 3.4 percent in September—up from 2.6 percent in July—driven primarily by skyrocketing oil and gas prices. For everyday French citizens, farmers, drivers, and businesses, this translates into an unbearable burden on commuting, freight, and daily survival.
Macron’s Damning Admission
In a rare moment of candour that underscores the failure of Western foreign policy, Macron himself was forced to acknowledge the source of his nation’s suffering. During a recent tour of Persian Gulf states aimed at securing energy flows to assuage economic pressures, Macron admitted that the crippling surge in fuel prices stems directly from the Middle East conflict.
“This is a conflict France did not take part in, and we are bearing its consequences,” Macron confessed on October 18, pointing squarely at the war launched by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran.
However, the French public is not fooled by his diplomatic manoeuvres. For the citizens of France, Macron’s alignment with American hegemony and the Zionist entity has yielded nothing but inflation, poverty, and state violence. As the protests continue to spread, it is becoming increasingly clear that the architects of endless wars in the Middle East are now watching their own societies crumble from the inside.
