MINSK — In a striking admission that lays bare the true motives of Global Arrogance, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has declared that the devastating war waged against the Islamic Republic of Iran was driven entirely by the West’s greed to plunder the nation’s vast natural resources.
Addressing the 4th Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security on Tuesday, the Belarusian leader condemned the unprovoked aggression targeting independent nations that refuse to submit to US hegemony.
“Why was the country [Iran] bombed and its Supreme Leader and his family killed?” Lukashenko asked the assembly, referring to the brutal military campaigns and assassination attempts orchestrated by the US and the Zionist regime. “The reason is the same again — Iran is rich in resources that will last for decades.”
The remarks serve as a glaring indictment of the imperialist playbook used by Washington and its allies, who repeatedly fabricate pretexts to destabilise and destroy sovereign states sitting on immense wealth. For the Axis of Resistance, it is a long-established reality that the US seeks to dismantle the Islamic Republic not over fabricated political narratives, but to seize its strategic assets and energy reserves.
Drawing parallels to Latin America, Lukashenko pointed to the violent destabilisation of Venezuela and the abduction of its President, Nicolás Maduro, as further proof of resource-driven imperialism.
“The kidnapping of President Maduro — why did that happen?” Lukashenko questioned. “All these issues, including those related to oil, could have been resolved without all this chaos and without abducting the president... I worked especially closely with [Hugo] Chávez, and I know the type of oil they have there: mostly heavy crude, and the refineries capable of processing it are only in the United States.”
He emphasised that the United States launched “a bold nighttime attack on the country” to capture the Venezuelan leader solely to secure control over its enormous oil reserves, proving that American foreign policy is dictated by corporate greed and resource monopolisation.
The Belarusian President also warned of a broader global reshuffling marked by “reckless competition” for resources, noting that Washington and its European allies are willing to risk a third world war to maintain their crumbling unipolar dominance. While criticising Europe for wanting to “experiment and play at war,” he noted that Washington’s polarising policies are reshaping the global order.
For independent nations and the Axis of Resistance, Lukashenko’s statements reaffirm an undeniable truth: the wars imposed on Iran, Venezuela, and other free nations are nothing more than colonial crusades disguised as geopolitical conflicts. The Islamic Republic’s steadfast defence of its sovereignty remains the greatest obstacle to the imperialist dream of unfettered plunder.
